| For a government response this seems to be reasonably ok, compared to some of the nonsense that government spouts. |

Interestingly many of the hudreds of bacteria in our gut originate from the early days of life, when oxygen wasn't around. As such oxygen is toxic to most of these bacteria. |

| When I asked for the figures, they sent me data with the years before2002 (years with fewer deaths clearly blacked out, I found them myself later). You do wonder what motivates to "prove " by deception. Anyway on a similar subject the A77 upgrade, from a 4 lane deathtrap to dual carriagewa... |

Too good Peter. You should be on the partnership
They were introduced in July 2005. Take any other 3 year periods and you do not get any serious reduction. Also quite cute taking the 1 death in the whole of 2005 as after the SPECS although they were introduced in the middle of the year. |

| Anyone work out how those clever people at the A77 Safety Patrneship get a " 50% drop in fatalities after SPECS cameras introduced" from the following apparently random figures? (Figures from their own website.) Year Fatalities 1996 - 1 1997 - 2 1998 - 3 1999 - 2 2000 - 3 2001 - 3 2002 - 3... |

Great article Robin.
This is obviously the same as Paul's Garden gnome theory.
I'm assuming we don't have any people who believe that it was the crystals/dowsing that achieved the effect. In that case this article should be cited whenever astonishing results are achieved at camera sites. |

| Just a point. These are public roads and as such the public can drive on them. We all go the quickest route from A to B on our journeys. Constant labelling as rat runners probably labels us all. A point Paul made on a few occasions. As far as I know, my car and bike are taxed, insured, MOT'd and I ... |

| There is a long stretch of the A77 (Ayr to Glasgow) road which is dual carriageway and now a 50 mph limit policed by average speed cameras. Probably been discussed before on here. The road was dangerous due to multiple junctions and having to cross the carriageway. Everyone now conforms to the speed... |

"Why would you be selfish to millions of unborn children?"
A tad hyperbolic I would suggest. Can one person be selfish to one million poeple let alone millions? |

| Safety Engineer what do you mean by "fails to danger"? As another even worse case of muddled thinking, there is a one way street that comes up to the main road, so as you guess, they put a large hump at that point. What is the point of that? You have to slow to check the traffic anyway :ro... |

| This is a topic I have discussed before. By pseuodpavement I mean a pavement which is carried on over a T-junction using usually monobloc or similar. I argued that what this does is make it more likely a pedestrian will not look properly and just walk out in front of a turning car. Now in there wisd... |

| With regard to red light jumping. I can see where it could be perfectly safe to do as long as due care was taken. Similar to crossing a junction with no lights. In India my friend always drove through red lights as he said he concentrated much more while doing this. Scared the bejesus out of me righ... |

| I got the impression a while back that some people on here would rather cut villages in two and have a motorway style road through it, rather than simply slow down and be more careful. You see I think a lot of drivers who see a situation ahead that could end up in this type of result DON'T slow dow... |

| A lot of people seem to be unaware of the fact that in English law you are punished for what you did (or didn't do), NOT for the consequences of that act or omission. Up to a point. But in this case if she had been caught using her mobile while driving and the cyclist hadn't come through the juncti... |
