Post-Test driver training - All the road safety bodies agree that it is necessary to improve road safety. So at present, we have: Pass Plus: A paid course of lessons with an ADI after your test, to take in motorways, night driving, etc etc IAM: A fantastic organisation, but, I'm afraid, slightly old...

Hi all

Just a quick question I've always wondered about traffic light cameras.

At a junction where there is a seperate light for traffic turning left, does a camera switch to enforcing the right turn lane when the light for straight on traffic goes to green?

All this could be avoided if people just stuck to the speed limit.

Nothing to stop the officer recording your speed with his speed gun and writing your number down on a piece of paper to serve an NIP.

Is there actually a camera installed here, or is it just a mobile enforcement area?

Can these cameras cover 2 sets of lights simultaeneously?

IE lights on the main carriageway, and a seperate light for a right turn filter lane. Whilst the main carriageway is on green the filter lights are on red and vice versa.

Or do they only cover traffic on the main carriageway?

If you cant see a van from that far away on a open NSL road you need your eyes tested.

I assume they can only ban a driver when stopped by police, as otherwise they would need some way of identifying who was driving the vehicle.

I dont know if they operate some sort of driver identification system.

Hi

Just happened to notice that there is a Truvelo listed on "Speed Cameras UK", but there is no camera marked on the surrey SCP site.

It should just be treated as a normal roundabout, with give way to the right applying.

Yeah its a single carriageway sorry.... no laybys, bridges, its an exceptionally narrow piece of road. One of the SCP documents says it will be "used as a 15% site when enforcement sites have been identified".
Thats from Jan this year.

Drove over a set of gatso calibration lines on the A4 between newbury and hungerford... no camera there but are they used by mobile units as a secondary speed check also? Seemed a stupid place for a camera... wide open National Speed Limit Road.
