Oh my. I've been away for a week, and come back to this. I'm shocked and saddened by this news. I'm not much of a prolific contributor, but read the forums here every day since it was always a haven of sanity. Not having known him personally, I will remember him for the honesty, integrity and intell...

I've 2 different pairs of high quality polarising sunglasses and both certainly help a lot with respect to sun reflected off roads (wet or dry) and cars. The downside is that they make a lot of newer car windscreens turn a bright irridescent purple or green (looking at the the outside only, they're ...

naw, I prefer: http://www.freightonrail.org.uk/ They had the grand inauguration of one of those in France a few months ago. http://www.lorry-rail.com/ Since the launch the statistics for the volume of freight carried is pretty impressive... Zero Why? Because they forgot to have the rolling stock de...

In my opinion, the article only touches half the problem. Combine sign clutter fetish with making the signs out of the most retro-reflective materials known to science and you can be sure that it becomes virtually impossible to drive at night unless you happen to be wearing a welding mask. It's very...

lost the appeal: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/uk/6251936.stm If anything, the potential long term reaction to this ruling (in non-motoring circumstances) is more frightening than the knee jerk reaction we might have seen if it had gone the other way. That's my reading too. The extrapolation of the m...

I thought these things (with exposed supports) were already banned for new installations across Europe and were in the process of being replaced. There was a german motorcyclist or his pillion wife (the latter I seem to recall) cut in two by the supports of a similar type of barrier on the A8 in the...

I really can't stand O'Leary. He's motivated by one thing - becoming very rich.

That said, if he was up for a bit of philanthropy, I'd like to see him 'restructure' the Civil Service like RyanAir. I bet he could find one or two places to cut costs and waste.

RyanGov - The low cost country.

From http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/02022007140005MWEH9M.htm The French motorcycle Gendarmes are fed up ! They are fed up because they have been ordered to come down very hard on speeding motorcyclists. Since the French motorcycle cop is first a biker, second a cop, they are objecting. They...

The serious motorway issue is probably: are they fast enough to keep up with the traffic? No they aren't. 80kph according to the manufacturer, so probably 65kph for real. http://kinroad.en.alibaba.com/product/50044010/50201217/Go_Karts/Go_Kart_EEC.html However at 155kg dry, swapping out the chinese...

Would I be able to say that this was an 'unexpeted necessity' You could say it, but I don't doubt you would have to say it in court after refusing to accept the fixed penalty notice. Then you would be reliant upon the random mystery factor that dictates which way the magistrate's wind is blowing on...

Now do you see what the 'review of speed limits' is all about? The Government tells us one thing, but for the past ten years at least, everything done in 'Road Safety' and 'Transport Policy' is a result of 'Global Services Providers' selling the promise of untold riches to corrupt Eurocrats. The Eur...

On my bike 95mph is what I would want to do if the conditons allowed it. It's the middle of the rev counter, peak torque and still very little buffeting from the wind. A very comfortable cruising speed and, as far as I can tell without the benefit of all the groovy digital distractometers available ...

All very strange in light of this: http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/web/media/news/motorcities_results.html The actual reason is that most big name insurers can't/won't quote for NI because of Northern Ireland Office restrictions and requirements. The problem that results is reduced comepetition. Translat...

What's required is a systematic persecution of cyclists with cycle unfriendly roads and taxes to drive them off the roads and on to public transport.

If it works for cars and motorcycles it should work for bicycles too.

Are they just dishing out final warnings to the Registered Keeper without any care as to who was actually driving?

That would be a bit naughty.

Setting aside theft of disc or being too stupid to display it, the current system is very good at being correct with respect to which vehicles are taxed and which aren't. Moving from this to a system of harassing motorists on the basis of a database, the quality of which will only ever decrease over...

1973 To play devil's advocate, the downward blip at that time also coincides with the introduction of vehicle lighting regulations and the 70's energy crisis with its 50mph blanket speed limit. The bigger down-turn coincides with the redefinition of mopeds to 3hp/30mph and the introduction of new he...
