Or like me, spend your £600 on a bike (including insurance) and actually go out and learn to ride... I feel like I've actually sussed it this year - I've been riding the GPZ off it's rims... :D I like your style Sixy, but remember pride comes before a fall. Every and I mean everytime I think...

Sixy, if I have understood you correctly, I'd have to disagree. A good brake can do a lot more than lock the wheel. If that's all they had to do, we'd still be on drums now! They need to turn the vehicle's kinetic energy into heat and then get rid of the heat as quickly as possible. A locked brake ...

Shall I put this into simple terms for you Herbie? At the point the wheel locks you have reached the limit of the retarding force that can be applied through that wheel. All a bigger and more powerful brake does is allows you to achieve this peak force more easily at higher speed and for longer with...

The type and size of the brakes are irrelavent - I can easily lock the back wheel of my 500 and that's only got a drum brake on the back. I SUSPECT I could easily lock the front (single side twin-pot) too, but I'm not stupid enough to try. Likewise I can easily get the ABS running on the car. A mode...

There is far more wastage from industry than from private individuals, and all in the name of health and safety. A good friend of mine many years ago used to work in a factory that produced pies. He told me that one day they threw away a tonne of boiled carrots because they were surplus to requireme...

I recon the daftest thing I've ever done (appart from shutting my finger in a car door - I STILL have a funny lump on the bone a year later) is this: I was trying to grind out a lap weld coz I'd got the part in the wrong place. I got most of the way through, but managed to leave a very thin sliver o...

Bikes are just the latest 'must have' toy. Those of us who've worked our way up through the ranks as it were, started out on old, small bikes and actually learned to ride properly aren't the ones having the accidents. It is, as Nos and Gixxer point out, the rich kids who go out and pass a DAS course...

Comparing performance is somewhat pointless - my E plate 500cc has over 200bhp/tonne. There aren't many 'normal' cars that come anywhere close to that. Even top end sports cars come nowhere near the top performing superbikes in terms of power to weight... The trouble is people, that most peopl...

IMO nothing, so long as you're still capable of keeping enough attention on the road.

I tend to agree - there's no apparent roadworks on his side of the road and the white rover (?) is too close for him to have undertaken and got back out again if it was only doing 30mph. The headline that this was a '30mph zone' conjurs an image of an urban setting in which it WOULD be totally obsce...

I think the likely answer to the original question is they see Sixy in a pisspot and shades come past on a fairly loud matt black bike carrying a chain and quietly say to themselves'I think maybe I'll leave this one alone'...

Would that be because you use it in an appropriate way and don't have long indepth coversations whilst driving through town?

What is it with you car drivers that you don't understand that when I have entered a roundabout and you are approaching it too, from my left, you enter the island without scrubbing off speed and going over the white line without the faintest idea that I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE SEEN ME AND ARE GOING ...

I think that this successful prosecution proves that the DBDD legislation works. Can we now see the driving with a mobile phone law repealed? Charging people after the event is all well and good, but helping to prevent the event in the first place is better is it not? Of course it is, but this even...

Ref hand signals. One of my bikes doesn't have indicators at all, so I agree with you there Herbie! Particularly in bright sunshine I tend to reinforce with a hand signal when I'm turning off a main road. adam. I've caught myself out a couple of times in the situation you describe in your OP. Fortun...
