On a slight digression, an equally useful "forward planning" lesson is to aim to use a constant braking rate. For example, next time you are in a situation where you can see you have to stop or slow down by a significant amount, take note of how your braking varies as you constantly reassess the si...

The Skoda is a very good motor, i have mine remapped to about 230 bhp. (according to the rolling road) and have a boost controller so i can run it at standard and turn it up when i want. Well worth £700 ish. The car handles ok as standard but i have uprated the rear Anti roll bar (£199 ish) and it t...

I did a half day drive with Hugh Noblett who is one of the HPC "gatekeepers". He was very keen on avoiding BGOL, unless very good reason for it. I enjoyed the half day drive, 12 years after passing IAM test there were a few things that i had let slip ( BGOL among them ) and he soon picked me up on ...

Well i dont feel i need any more skills to provide the training which i give. And any course i did would not allow me to do what i can do at work already with regard to Blues and Two's. I will be paying for any course myself and i am sure that most people can learn something extra. Which is what i ...

You shouldn't be trying to use the engine to slow down though. As they say it is "Brakes to slow, gears to go."

Can someone please just say why this is necessary. I cannot do proper heal toe in my car as (a) the pedals are not spaced correctly (b) the revs will not blip or raise properly whilst braking. I have been trying the system of braking down and then selecting the correct gear after releasing the brake...

56mph is a lot faster than most of the traffic will be doing on the M1 right now!! Cant see how this protest will stop people doing anything. Surely if 56mph isn't fast enough for some people they can use an alternative route?

It would be nice for an IAM obs or Instuctor to comment.. my car is nigh on impossible to do h&T on due to pedal position and also the length of my legs (as in they hit the steering wheel when trying to get my heel across) I think the gear thing is just being pedantic and is way out of date. Obs...

I must agree that 40mph on a NSL road for LGV is too slow in most circumstances. When i am instructing our new drivers in a Fire appliance and sticking to the 40 limit, we often get people giving our drivers abuse. And even LGV drivers doing the same (who should know better) When we get our new vehi...

It seems stupid to be getting to the point of stalling the engine in a high gear as they seem to expect. ( i have not done IAM stuff) Surely as decribed above, changing into say 3rd or 2nd is much better than the car being on the verge of stalling. In Roadcraft it says all about overlapping braking ...

Your examiner should understand your problem. It is ridiculas to expect people to never "coast" at some point the clutch has to be depressed. In my experience too much emphasis is placed on this rather than actual driving skills. If you read Roadcraft it actually tells you to depress the clutch when...

Just saw that, unfortunatley there was no camera gear in them according to the report. I bet the only thing the guy in the stolen tractor thing wasn't doing was speeding!

Its never really that easy though. I doubt every lorry driver would want to work nights all week, what about family life?? Also if they had to pay drivers more the knock on effect would be enormous as it would put the price up of everything delivered by road much in the same way as fuel costs. I dou...

I agree with the above statement, it is the same as most things in this world, bad driving causes bad accidents, not necesserally just speed, but bad driving is hard to catch or police. So as usual the people who just make a small error of speed get the points while banned drivers etc. Just carry on...

Hi, has anyone here done any of the HPC courses http://www.high-performance-course.co.uk/ I am thinking of doing one to help my driving and also to aid me with my job. At present i am a Fire service driving instructor in both LGV and Cars, i am on the LGV instructors register and also an ADI, i have...

I have a Road angel 2 and also a Snooper 815is, the RA2 is a great piece of kit, it is only really limited by the database which it relies on for its alerts. Around my area there are a number of mobile camera van sites, these are not in the database, however you can manually store these. I paid £315...
