https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/30/learner-drivers-allowed-on-motorways-training-shakeup The RAC director, Steve Gooding, and Neil Greig, policy director at the IAM RoadSmart charity, backed the proposal. Gooding said: “The casualty statistics tell us that motorways are our safest roads, ...

I know who it was aimed at, but ,with the present climate in the EU- the EU Commissioners might like start thinking that a lot of other countries might go "a la UK " and want out.
So it could be seen as a double entendre( nice as Msrr Frog is one causing UK problems).

But it's all down to self preservation. If in left lane of a DC ,with a truck in the right lane, would most folks on here blast past on the inside ? Easy to be early in the next world. Safe road users prefer to be late in this world and avoid confrontation ,by planning ahead and ASSUMING( dangerous w...

I've got a simple cure- when I turn left,at a two lane junction I always get as close as possible to pavement .Not to upset the proper cyclist ( who usually knows why), but to stop the idiots that flash down the inside .If they want to go round me on the inside, they'll have to ride on the pavement ...

Motorists should always have to give way to cyclists when turning at a junction, says British Cycling. WHY. If I choose to jump into Crocodile infested waters, do my dependants see fit to blame the crocs for my injuries ? The governing body for the sport is calling for a change in the Highway Code ...

I remember ,years ago ,there was a lot of waffle about the need for some lower forms of policing to police cyclists and dog owners. Enter stage left - PCSO's , designed to police both( and ,sadly as the way regs were written, anything else the CC deemed fit). So these days we have LA doing the dog t...

Fine, if other road users were to be held as accountable. How about the average mother with pram that sticks pram into roadway to check that it's safe to cross. Child could be first in line to be killed, but Brake would have the car driver ,possibly left with no space to go ,and a pram not in view ,...

And you when you say "that cyclists aren't dangerous" do you man all of them?

Surely female cyclists in the wrong place at the wrong time are equally dangerous ( there's no sex discrimination in our PEDESTRIAN section of the town centre when it comes to dangerous cycling ).

My point is can you not see the difference between somebody in a large vehicle with limited visibility driving along a pavement and somebody on a 28lb bike? We're talking physics here. NO- we're talking common sense, unless that car ( you mentioned) has transformed into a HGV. Unless you know diffe...

ok, I'll bite- is mum on bike with child on rear seat, or is it mum on one bike and child on a kids bike ? .But then, Why should a car want to drive over the full width of a pavement. No wonder WE all find you so confusing as you fail to explain the point.

It's an important point, not trolling! People do all sorts of stupid things, not car drivers, not cyclists, people... BUT, from ALL your previous, it would be OK if it was a cyclist, but not a car. From ALL your previous, there seems to be TWO sets of rules on the road. Those for cyclists, and those...

OH-they like the cash from parking /planning permits for dropped kerbs. And even more the "fines" for various offences.

Like that Peter. But is the RAC falling into the old trap of higher speed = less safety. ("“Encouraging better driving behaviour will not only result in safer roads, but also enable significant savings on the cost of fuel and wear and tear on vehicles.”) Especially when there's items such as th...

I used to find a high number of cars of the types used by company car drivers had no tolerance of vehicles on Dual Carriage ways, where they tail gated and sped with no consideration of other road users( witness regular trips on the A14, from M1 to the A605. Once on the A605, this type had problems ...

Of course not - it's one law for us, another law for them :x But in the meantime the coffers from "cyclist awareness courses" starts to rise to healthy levels. [pedestrian/ mobility scooter user hat on] Now if we could only get PCSO on the pavements ( forget streets) to get cyclists on ro...

Well, grabs, we'll wait and see if West Mids police see it that way , or as usual, another fine way to make them look more efficient, or as another way to drive a wedge further between roadusers. Forget all working together to make the roads safer - lets just grab as much cash as we can .

Wish we had a "LIKE" button. :D problem with so many organisations telling us that this single thing causes accidents etc is that the focus is taken off overall safety responsibility and instead of safety being looked at in a wide focus, it's now looked at in several single focused ways, w...

Perhaps we might start by asking the parents ( as was done with a recent drowning) ,why the child was left alone in a dangerous place without supervision. How many housing estates are now filled with tank traps because parents think it's everybody else's responsibility to keep their kids safe on the...
