Aaahhhh. Whatever happened to CB radio (on the AM frequency)?
22 for a copy.......
Is that a local variant "breaking channel"?
I used to always use 19 "for a copy" in London in the early 80's.
As far as CB radio being replaced by the internet is concered, I disagree - what I found very useful with the CB system was being able to communicate "generally" with non-specified people within reception range (usually a mile or three when mobile in town).
You could then ask about traffic in the area, and inquire about alternative routes real-time.
I even used it once to "follow" a lorry on-air that I could see in the traffic ahead, and got him to flash some roof-mounted lights at the point I had to turn off (as I was unfamiliar with the local roads and requested directions).
I suppose navigation systems and RDS fulfill some of the CB functions, but what can replace the ability to ask a truck to let you in when you are stuck at T-junction trying to enter a packed but slow-moving mass of vehicles?
