This is quite an interesting tool to show how much your personal inflation rate is compared to the quoted random one :) It does show rates over the last 18 months and the funny thing is when the rate was highest for me I noticed it but the official rate seemed to have a large gap to what I was noticing.

To see it you'll need the Adobe SVG viewer. http://www.adobe.com/svg/

My quoted rate over the last year was always higher than the official one. I would be interested to see if anyone had an inflation rate that was lower.... It also assumes a total annual spend of £24k! I hope this is a household spend as otherwise this explains why everyone is up to their eyes in debt if the government assume household income is about £50k which would be the only way you could afford to spend like that!

The total annual spend is modified by the data that you enter.

My personal (well household) inflation rate has varied from 9% down to 4% and is currently at 7%. The 4% coincided with the official low, but my inflation rate is consistently well above the official rate. I can only assume that anybody that matches or is below the official rate has a fully paid for tiny (but fuel efficient) property in a low risk area and doesn't have a car, and spends all of their money on food, gadgets and foreign holidays.

Hmm. I've got a car and spend all my spare cash on car maintenance and gadgets :D No holidays though.

The default figure comes out at 23k when you first enter the calculator. Or at least it did for me. Maybe they bump it up if you're using an imac... :)

Quoted for truth.

Since 2004 I've had exactly one payrise, of less than 2%. My inflation rate is currently at 6% and showing a sharp upwards trend.
