56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

yeah man, this is the harsh reality of littering. some people just don't learn. hats off to litter team leader Shane Taylor, where would we be without courageous men like him?

We were in Dublin the other week, they have sophisticated breaking edge technology called litter bins everywhere. They have little ashtrays in the top too, and it was remarkably clean in comparison to London. I'd like to think one day we could be as progressive as the Irish, but I guess there's too many sadistic little pricks in local government with altogether different ideas on how they'd like to resolve such problems.

I'm definitely applying to be a jobsworth support officer. I've already got a list of people I don't like and who I can penalise with no evidence other than my opinion.

The one good thing that is coming out of all this is that people are beginning to realise the value of a magistrates court that is independent of the police and local council. Unfortunately the fact that the police are issuing tickets for offences far more serious than was originally intended has already resulted in courts being closed on some days due to lack of work. This latest step will add to that.

Tim effing Young...

If you want the definition of the terms 'Jobsworth', 'closed-circuit culture' or 'completely f*cking useless Borough Council', come and live near me in Colchester. They have squandered Poll Tax on crap like this ( and a million other hare-brained schemes) but any mention of the shite state of our roads, absurd traffic-calming, piss-poor street lighting, commercial decay in the town, laughable Public Transport or squandered public funds, they just invoke the old 'acting under instructions from County' card - aka 'I voz only acting unter orders' defence at Nuremberg.

They also employ people like him who adorns the leader of this post - and many a bloody site worse. I would not urinate on our Town Hall if it was alight...

When the accredited workers have finished their training course, I think their "passing out" test should be as follows:

You will proceed to the nearest gipsy/travellers site and issue them with tickets for littering, having no VED, messy dogs etc. You will go alone. You pass if your stay in hospital is less than 7 days.

On second thoughts, you can take someone with you. Just one person: Jacquie Smith.

Careful, they'll arrest... Fine you for having "thoughts deemed bad by some council worker"! :bunker:

Along with every other JP and judge in England and Wales I have just received the weekly update from the Judicial Communications Office. This contains an announcement to the effect that there will be a £90 million shortfall in court funding over the next three years.

Expect a very big increase in the numbers of "offences" dealt with outside the judicial system.

After losing the case, at Hull magistrates court on Wednesday, a spokesman for the city council said: "We have taken a zero tolerance approach to environmental crimes since April 2006 and will continue to do so."

The council refused to say how much they spent on the case since enforcement officers first cautioned Sarah in the city centre.

FoI anybody?
I'm surprised they didn't charge the pigeon with "attempting to pervert the course of justice" when it made off with the evidence!

:| £90million shortfall. Don't suppose it gives reasons why the court system in particular has been targeted... as opposed to, say, all the Consultancy firms they fund?

Last time I complained of dog fouling ,our councillor suggested that "some evidence " was needed .I offered to provide it (suitably bagged ,of course ),or direct the dog wardens to sites . This did not go down well
