I have identified a proper use for ANPR, or to be fair, facial recognition...

Problem 1: our cat brings in live rodents to our house
Problem 2: Other cats enter our house eating our cats food making our cat insecure. Our cat then feels to get in our good books it should bring home more live rodents.

Solution: Facial recognition controlled switch on cat flap

Scenario 1: our cat arrives with a rodent, facial recognition fails, cat and rodent stuck outside
Scenario 2: other cat stuck out side, our cat feels less need to supply live gifts

Hardware required, wifi camera, pc , power supply, electro magnetic cat flap lock

leave the flap open, let the pc record 100 images of the cat, teach the pc good and bad images of cats allowed in and not allowed in.

Anton,
assuming you weren't joking

Do you know there are products that already do what you need?

I know a flap/collar system exists that unlocks the flap only when it detects that presence of the collar (placed around the cat's neck) via RFID.

They do indeed exist, though they won't stop them bringing in mice! They do have their own set of problems though, our old cat (now sadly deceased) took ages to get to use the flap, since he was highly freaked out by a click right by his ear, every time he stuck his head into the confined space of the entry tunnel. My poor mum has scars on her arms from trying to coax him through!

Adjust your 'ANPR' to recognise and deny entry to cats carrying mice :D

I have the same problem with an interloper stealing cat food. Cheeky barsteward also rips open food sachets if the box lids aren't weighed down or covered.

I'm looking at the chip driven cat flaps. I thought about facial recognition but as several of mine are black and tend to look rather similar I think there would be some mistaken identity...

If they're bright enough perhaps a keypad entry? :D

Perhaps moggie is saying it needs companion -like a small terrier -no live mice( or anything bigger ) ,and few unwanted cats - it'll only let it's own cat back in .Or why not just build/buy moggie a kennel ,and keep it out till you let it in .

We have a taxidermist in Staveley who can convert any animal to one which can be petted and stroked, does not need walking, grooming or feeding, won't bring home any rodents (or fleas), and can be left safely behind when you go on holiday - no kennel or cattery fees! :stirthepot: :D

What I am really saying is that if you get any sort of pet, you have to be prepared to face the consequences!!
At least kids eventually grow up and learn how to look after themselves, then (hopefully) leave home!! :hehe:

And on that note -anyone see the episode of Bondi vet - where an old ( very eccentric) Sydney lady had one dog stuffed - .
