At first glance these sound like a better idea than speed cameras but..
Does anyone have any details of how they will be operated. i.e. will they be left unattended and drivers be ticketed 14 days later as is the case with speed cameras?
If so how will they differentiate between drivers being cut up and those deliberately driving close? What happens if the person in front brakes, you were leaving a correct gap which is reduced by reaction time but that was the whole point of the gap in the first place.
And are we going to have a new offence like we've had for mobile 'phones, just to make it easy to prosecute?
I can see a whole new sport of dodging in front of people just as they pass the cameras. With the resultant hassle for the innocent victim to evade a fine and points, if at all possible.
And what's the point of a piece of paper which says at some point in the last fortnight you were two feet too close to the car in front? Where's the educational element?
The alternative, pulling drivers there and then, just isn't likely is it.
