We have to remember also that the release of large quantities of previously buried Carbon into the atmosphere as CO2 is not a new phenomenon. This happens every time a volcano erupts.

Thousands of major volcanic eruptions have occurred in the history of the Earth, and we're all still here. This tells us that the Earth already has a mechanism for dealing with "old" CO2 release.

We don't understand yet how this mechanism works, or what its limits are, so there is definite wisdom in a "play it safe until we know more" policy.

Many scientists believe that Global Warming theory is all "a storm in a teacup" - that accessible fossil fuels will simply run out long before mankind has had the chance to do any significant damage with them.

Water, in gaseous state, is better thought of as hydroxyl hydride due to its ion product. The number of combinations of hydrogen and oxygen isotopes, along with the partial ionisation states, give it a virtual continuous set of emission lines from microwave up to its dissolution energy in the mid UV.
Carbon dioxide has bond angles of 90 degrees from the centre of molecular symmetry, and thus the normal for greatest impinging excitation - bloody alchemist! 8-)

I see,I will let you off :hehe: I supposse someone has to be a physicist :bunker: . when I am not busy turning lead into gold, :jester: I will dig out my enviromental chem notes, and my molecular symmetry notes. To and a bit of light to the discussion :juggle: :gossip:

Physicists isolate the fundamental building blocks that form the Cosmos we see around us. They then pass them on to chemists and biologists who will play with them for hours! (Old departmental insult from CalTech).
or,
If a biologist kills you, you die in writhing agony, probably infecting any that try to help you in your death-struggle; if a chemist kills you, the end comes quicker, but the building you are in may also cease to exist or you will be reduced to some ghastly, ichorous, dark liquid on the floor; if a physicist kills you, forensic scientists will spend years trying to decide why a perfectly fit and healthy person should drop dead in a bus queue...(not sure - Max Planck, I think).
And finally, from one of my own sixth-formers,
Physics is really very simple. You don't have to know much, but you have to understand a great deal...

The scientific hatchet is thus buried!

Interesting bit of astronomical observation of water vapour in planetary atmospheres here:- http://tinyurl.com/ygamad
I wonder if Uranus has Hummers?

Whereas physics is only about heating up? :hehe:

"Entropy increases"... So really, it'd be about "cooling down"...

Except when I put my pre-cooked curry in the microwave, of course.

Oh come on, now you're just being silly!

I've scared myself by the amount of this thread I actually managed to understand!

...and people claim that safe speed members are stupid....

At least physics demonstrates (within accepted theory!) that work is mad (mass x acceleration x distance)

If that's your attitude, you can't have any of my curry. :P
