"un-economic repair" is what the insurers call it....... It doesn't mean that it can't be safely repaired, simply that in their view it's easier to pay you up than repair it because it's so old and the bottom book price is next to nothing. After all, we ALL know that the first question that a repairer asks you is: "Is it an Insurance claim" (Which means costs X 2). It's an Insurance write off - not a damage write off.

Go for the best that you can get, plus... say that you want the car back as well......It'll cost you half to get it fixed, and you'll have a free holiday with the rest. :)

Last time we tried that we ended up 2 grand down and had to make our own arrangements to collect the old one after the insurance insisted on towing it to Essex to examine it.

Currently waiting for a reply having sent a quote directly to the 3rd party insurers.

WEll, good luck with it anyway Lum. They delayed me 6months and gave me a little more for my car and agreed to give me the car as well. I had it repaired (properly) for 1 third of the pay out and banked the rest. P.S. the bloke who rammed me from behind was back on the road in 2 weeks I believe......

Edit:

er........Just a mo' Lum, Did you say you were "Third Party"?

No fully comp but previous experience with this insurer (renewal has not come up since they wrote off the last car) shows that they wont put any effort in and will just write it off.

We're going to deal with the third party insurers directly as they don't have the right to write the car off. Just waiting for a reply, will have to give them until after the holidays though.

The fact that it may not be economical to the third party's insurers does not come it to it, the vehicle should be put back to the condition it was prior to the accident regardless of cost or value of vehicle.

Whynot

Correct, that's why we're going directly to the third party's insurance and keeping our own out of the loop.
