Where did you find that bit? Is it a deleted bit? If it is, what's the rest of the deleted bit?

i think only the original post & quotes of it have gone.

that comment was "Posted: Fri May 19, 2006 9:48 pm", second to last on the thread i think.

and re: aerodynamic polish... i cant recall what mag it was in, 'racecar engineering' perhaps there was a discussion of surface texture and what speed it has a noticeable effect. safe to say even f1 cars were only just verging on the kinds of speeds that made any difference.

Straining my brain back to 3rd year aerodynamics, having a perfectly smooth surface isn't necessarily the best thing - turbulent flow produces less surface drag than laminar flow, so if you have a rougher surface then you will get turbulent flow at a lower speed. I seem to remember that turbulent flow causes more wake drag though...

I'd also be seriously concerned about the effect of his wipers on the performance. Taking them off is a risk - having to put them on every time it rains would be tedious.

I presume he also removed the wipers to save weight, but carries them in the car just in case it does rain...

On a (sort of) similar topic, here's a superb Schadenfreude moment from another of his brethren...
