So now I'm banned from pubs, clubs and restaurants.

And I'm allowed to go to pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Assuming that you mean because of a lack of smoking, good luck to you.

However, the proper solution was to allow the market to adapt to the preferences of customers. And if that didn't serve you or me, then tough. However I'm confident that the market would have adapted - and was adapting - to cater for all strong preferences.

Hmmm tricky one to get into all this banning stuff.

While i can see why a ban on pumping carcinogen vapours into the general vicinity of other people would be a good thing for health reasons ( they did do it for that right?) i can also see the point of being able to have the freedom choose for oneself whether or not to take such an occupation up.
Im not a smoker, never have been cant see the point of it, yet if other folks really want to go roll up a £5 note and set fire to the end of it, thats fine by me, as long as its not imposing on my rights to breathe clean (ish) air.
The ban on fags does make sense but its this interference by government thats microwaving my urine and narking me.
Im a hater ( in the extreme) of government bullying ( they call it protection- wankers) and nannying of the adult population.
We're not frigging kids, we can make our own minds up what we want to do.
If i want to get ratarsed to the point of following a kerb home then as long as i cause no issues to anyone else then wtf has it got to do with those other nannying bastardos-"drinkaware"?
" please drink responsibly"...how about " fuck-off!"? (sorry for the language but nothing else really fits as well!! :D
The fact is im neither a drinker or a smoker but if i was id take very badly to being constantly prodded by a state finger and being told what to do, hence i ignore entirely what they say im not allowed to do anyway.......
Ban the ban-ers i say.

If smokers want to smoke then let them, they know the risks, it costs them a fortune for the dubious "pleasure", so long as they dont inflict it on others then its their call. Enough of this constant government noseying!!

DeltaF, that post so reminded me of that great speech:

I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green jello all over my body reading playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

Hmm, as a 47 year old with an overfull glass of Glenomarngie listening to Kasabian too loud, much to the disgust of his daughter, where the hell does that leave me?

That is the supposed reason... It is, of course, completely untrue. As far as I'm aware there has never been a properly conducted study on Environmental Tobacco Smoke that has shown any statistical link between ETS and "smoking-related illnesses"... Indeed, the massive W.H.O 1998/9 cohort study only found one even vaguely statistically-significant link, and that was for shildren exposed to ETS - who had a lower incidence of smoking-related illnesses in later life.

The famous USA EPA "study" only produced a very very weak link after they'd cooked the figures to such a point that you'd fail a statistics GCSE if you tried it in the exam!

Effectively, this ban has come about thanks to the "I don't like the smell of fag smoke" lobby hijacking the, specious, medical scare. Oh, I'm a life-long non-smoker BTW.
