Makes you want to buy the dirtiest pre-2001 car you can find doesn't it?

Please tesco's checkout lady, can I have extra plastic bags with my shopping please...

My plastic carriers used to be used for the small bins....but now they go straight into the dustbin. In fact, I now use more....

The day politicians talk straight and say:
"look, we don't give a shit about the environment. We need loads of money from you because the public services are over-staffed, inefficient and a drain on the economy. Not only that, but if we let you keep it, you'll spend it on buying things YOU can afford but the COUNTRY cannot. Since this country does not produce any of the goods you buy, they have to be imported and this costs yet more money. Since you buy your drink abroad we have to put taxes up on everything else to make up the difference" is the day I'LL give a shit. Which won't be any day soon.

It is one of the basic problems of life. The creaking ship-of-state needs money to float. Our money. I have yet to find out why, since the hospitals in this county are now all trust, the local area health authority needs to increase staffing levels to administer less. Mind you, I have yet to figure out why the hospital cannot afford to use the MRI scanner at night for [human] patients, but can afford to allow it to be used for [veterinary] patients.

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

Using the MRI scanner costs money. There is a fixed NHS budget no matter how many patients are scanned thus the more you use it the bigger defecit you have. The vets pay extra to use it and thus make the NHS a profit.

I've been away while Darling was spouting forth, but..

That tax at purchase, what is to stop new car buyers going back to personal imports to get around the tax?

It's actually an increased rate for the first year's VED.

Whenever the Government start talking about wanting us all in small, low-powered cars, this is the image that always comes to mind:

Uh oh - the glaciers melting story again.
I notice they fail to mention those glaciers which are expanding year on year.

They've also pointed out 2006 as a key focal point, wasnt it just earlier this month they were telling us we can't look at how cold 07/08 winter has been because you can't use one off years and that 2006 winter was particularly warm cos of some cycle, and 07 cold due to same cycle. Maybe that'd explain the larger melting in the Alps - but then that wouldn't fit their agenda.

The more evidence I see, the more I am convinced that the global warming theory is just a cover for the fact that the world is running out of oil.

But even if that's the case, Labour's taxes are not high enough to be prohibitive and make a significant dent in our usage of oil. They just seem to be looking for the Max Revenue point on the Laffer curve.

Even some of the Environmentalist groups are starting to get fed up with Labour now, because so little of the revenue gained from "green" taxes is being spent on environmental initiatives. Labour are "green" on one side of the balance sheet but not on the other.

This is not to mention their latest plans for £20 drop off charge at heathrow ( to help air pollution, of all things, whilst they continue to expand it!)

and the proposed 20mph on M20...

Please sign this petition asking the PM to scrap the retroactive application of the new VED bands to 2001-2006 cars:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UNFAIR-VED/

Over 2500 signatures already and it's only been up for a few hours.

...though sadly there's still plenty of time left for them to really prove how dumb they are before the electorate give them the kicking in the polls they so richly (but not too richly, otherwise they'd have to slap a new tax on it  ) deserve
