I would assume he was parked otherwise they wouldn't have been able to catch him...

I was thinking... If someone smokes inside (or within 3 metres of?) a payphone can BT be fined for not trying to stop them?

Except in Hull, obviously.

Including churches and cathedrals

Has any one seen the sticker on 10 downing street?
Should every one who employs a cleaner display a sticker?

I made a sign: No Murdering.

Hope some of you find it amusing.

You click on 'download file' and enter a random number it appears. It's only a diddy little PDF file.

If I have to display no smoking signs, then I'd want one with a swastika instead of a red line on the cigarette

Nothing in the regs says you can't have a swastika or two on the sign as well. I don't think they could go over the "no smoking" symbol though.
Maybe I'll make one of them when I get time... :)

As in, I do employ a cleaner, but I don't display a sticker and I won't display a sticker. (It made sense at the time) :)

That'll be £200 please. Make cheques payable to The Secret Smoking Police Ltd.
(And it made sense to me until you pointed out that it might not!)

You own a premises in which it is illegal to not display the signs.
You don't display the signs because they are ugly and insult your intelligence.
You get fined by the secret smoking police.
You still don't display signs because you really don't want to.

How long until they can fine you again for the same offence?

Hard on the heels of the ban , comes some "enforcement" - the race is on for the most stupid anti smoking idea .Admittedly it is the Sun

Smoke drifts in

You know, I think this may be related to a form of enforcement which I have hear about on the grapevine, so not sure how much truth it holds. I am told that they authorities are using a 'black box' sniffer to tell whether anyone has smoked in a room or vehicle recently. The technology certainly exists to make this possible.

If this is the case, then the shutting of windows was probably advised by the officials in order to stop the box reading positive when in fact noone had smoked inside, but the room had been contaminated from the smokers without. It would be another case of the authorities letting the enforcement equipment override the law! If the law says that there is no requirement to prevent smoke from outside drifting into a room by shutting doors and windows, and this would cause their box to return a false positive for a violation, then their box is not suitable for the job.

Change the box to fit the law, not the law to fit the box!! :x

If they actually enforce the law on signs then about 75% of premises near me, including some council, will be getting fined for missing/non-compliant signs.

This (signs requirement) is the dumbest law for some considerable time.

Quote:
“Every situation is different and we need to ensure nonsmokers don’t have to endure smoke blowing in from outside.”

Morons. :o Seriously. I can "endure" a small waft of smoke the same way I can endure others eating food I personally don't like. It's called tolerance. What I can't endure is these wankers trying to poison everything with their extremism.

The smoking nazis went to a pub in Maidenhead and even though noone was smoking outside, they insisted on the landlord closing the windows of the pub in case smoke wafted in from the outside.

NO link to the story yet but i'll post it once it's online.

Edit - Cheers Botach, saw you link.

With apologies to Ernest Marsh, here is a draft I have done of a sign which I believe meets the requirements as specified in the legislation. It should print to A4 and I would be happy to see copies posted everywhere.

Regards

Malcolm Cooper

btw I am an ex-smoker :-)

I've been making signs too... ;)

I think these are all legally compliant but I haven't checked to be 100% sure.

Then I ran out of ideas.

I have not included the one with Nazi swastikas on because I think that was a bit OTT. I couldn't think of a neat place to put them and make it slightly less subtle BUT still legally compliant...

The originals were drawn by me in Scribus and I have also exported them as PDFs. If only I could find somewhere willing to host PDFs... They are only about 10 KB
These are all 75 DPI PNGs.

I'll include this one separately because it's not legally compliant. It could, of course, be placed alongside any others... ;)
