no? How dare you suggest that these cyclists deserve what they got for daring to ride in a perfectly legal fashion. It could just have easily been four people in a car, 4 people on 2 motorbikes, whatever. THEY WERE NOT AT FAULT. THEY DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLES. Right now I suggest that you retract your comments as they are in seriously bad taste.
Once you've done that you may want to spend the time to learn how a bunch works.
Johnsher, I'm afraid that (aside from the unwarranted insulting language) he does actually have a point.
If a convoy of cars were to drive along the road at quarter-second spacing I'm sure you'd condemn it as unwise, let alone if they were doing so at a competitive speed.
Similarly, if I were riding my bike and another cyclist independently decided to sit on my back wheel I'd be pretty narked about it, especially if I came across an unexpected incident and he went straight into the back of me.
I'm aware that for tactical and strategic reasons that's the way it's done in cycle racing, but nevertheless from a road safety perspective it has to be said that it would surely be safer if they obeyed the "two second" rule.
So in that sense I feel there is at least a degree of culpability to the cyclists in this instance. In choosing to ride "as a pack" they all but remove the possibility of any evasive action being taken by any of the riders in the event of something unexpected happening.
