Some very questionable opinions here from one Michael Cross who seems to think it would be a good idea if registered keeper details on the DVLA database were made public:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2010/jan/21/dvla-database-car-ownership

Sounds to me like giving the green light to thieves and vigilantes.

Mr Cross has it all wrong. The keeper data should be almost entirely secret except for the police.

Cut up by someone? Just look him up, go round with your mates and beat him senseless. You won't be found out as nobody knows who you are.

See a pretty girl you fancy in her convertible? Look her up and go round to pester her.

The latest Companies Act is going the other way in allowing directors to obscure their private addresses from the public record for fear of reprisal attacks.

Cross = Idiot.

Let's not further encourage misregistration of vehicles!

In many cases now the information would be useless as it would simply show the name of a fleet management or leasing company.

If this came in, I would imagine most people would re-register their vehicles with some kind of nominee company.

Which would also make the NIP procedure far more long-winded.

A classic example of unintended consequences.

So far only one of the commenters agrees with the Guardian idiot !

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing
