Not sure I should be posting here. It's only part of an article, why don't all you 4x4'ers buy one of these, that should keep our Mr Livingstone busy. :)

Er... because although the hype is anti-4x4, the legislation is not. The CR-V would be Kengestion-charged at £8 and the resident's discount would apply while many Mondeos (which emit more than 225g CO2 per km) would get hit for £25 and the resident's discount would not apply.

This is how the anti-car lobby are winning. Far too many motorists have bought the hype and, baying evangelically for eco-blood, have joined the anti-4x4 witchunt with a blind fervour that prevents them from seeing that their family car is the real target.

FWIW, even my tonka toy (2.8 LWB Pajero) would attract less Kengestion charge than many family cars (not that I ever want to set wheel in the place).

great as Honda's are, I can't think of a reason to buy a CRV over a Jazz, Civic or Accord.

The Jazz and Civic are not very good as towcars, having 85% matches typically under a tonne. Some variants of the Accord are better. For example, the 2.4 Excutive Tourer. However, even that isn't a patch on the CR-V, particularly the 2.2 diesel. Just on costs, the Accord is in emissions band G and costs quite a bit more than the CR-V, which is in emissions band E. Also, the CR-V would stand a much better chance of getting off wet grass towing a family caravan.

So while the other models might be better for you, others have different needs that make the CR-V the best choice out of the Honda range.

Will,

I posted the article with a little bit of jest in mind. IMO Livingstone was killing two birds with one stone, and yes the people of London need to wake up to what he’s actually doing.

Although my significant other loves CRVs (and has had 3), she thinks that this new model looks horrible in photos and is waiting to see one "in the metal".

I'm encouraging her to get a Q7 6 litre diesel W12 instead ..... ha, ha, ha, haaaa...

We live 8 miles from any sizeable town so congestion charge is unlikely to be a consideration - yet.

When my dad sold his cows last year, some idiot came in a CRV and tried to squeeze three cows in a trailer behind it.

A; get a decent tow car and b; know how big your trailer is. I could have punched him.

Yes, you are right - it's a V10 diesel turbo like the Touareg but uprated to 6.0L. :)
