I went cycling in Southampton tonight. I was cycling down the road when a group of pedestrians stepped out of the road in front of me (I had lights and high-vis clothing on). I rung my bell and slowed down. As I passed the group one man said in a distinctly American accent "You're cycling on the wrong side of the road".

How ignorant of your surroundings can you be? No wonder pedestrians get mown down when they don't even know which side of the road traffic drives on.

not surprising at all. Anyone with half a brain would look both ways regardless.

There does seem to be a rather disturbing game played by kids in South London - deliberately walking in front of moving vehicles. It comes complete with either beavis and butthead laughter "heh, heh, heh, you almost got run down, heh, heh, heh", terse mutterings of "f*ck off" if you dare to point out that maybe they should look before leaping in front of things doing 20-30mph, or, on the odd occasion, manic screaming (that's one for the black girls for some reason).

had someone do this to me years ago, I just accelerated towards them and they literally froze in the middle of the road!, strange but never had it happen since

trouble is with the state of todays roads you could run over someone and just think it was an ordinary pothole or bump
