I was on the southern part of the M1 recently and saw signs saying that it was to be closed for a weekend whilst they blew up a bridge over it to allow for widening. Does anyone know if that is happening this weekend, or where I could find out when it's happening? My brother is off up to London for the weekend and I advised parking in Cockfosters tube station car park for the day, but if the M1 is to be close he'd be better going down the M40 and parking in Chiswick.

Maybe the AA or RAC might know or be able to find out for you? Or know who you might contact?

Just a thought .. mate!

The signs I saw around junctions 10-8 said that was going to happen last Saturday. I assume it's over and done now, because the signs warning about closures have been removed.

The Highways Agency site agrees with Peter-the first bridge was removed last weekend, with more closures planned for next year to remove the others.

thanks for the info - I didn't think of using the AA or RAC sites, as they usually just bombard you with insurance adverts! BBC news was singularly useless, I tried searching for all combinations of "M1", "closure", "bridge" all to no avail.
