A woman whose car was written off by a falling tree returned to the vehicle to find her stereo stolen and a parking ticket on the windscreen.

Apparently the parking attentants are told to use their common sense

Is that before or after they have made their quota for the day?

Heard on R2 News .. they decided to "cancel the ticket"

I do despair though. Should have been obvious to someone with a mere half working brain cell that the owner had abandoned the car in the interests of safety. In any case.. the ferocity of these storms was well beyond our worst nightmares on Thursday - only experienced twice before in such widespread and grandscale nationwide devastation in 1990 and 1987.

Co Durham was hard pressed in coping.. but thankfully our overall casualites were not on a par with the loss of life as experienced elsewhere. I feel for those bereaved and injured by these storms against which we discovered that we are, after all, rather powerless and frail humans against the force of severely angry Nature.

This is what happens when people are given the ability to impose restrictions and make money from enforcing them. Oh, like speed cameras then.
