Well, I don't know how I did it, but somehow I managed to wheedle my way out of this afternoon's last minute christmas shopping insanity.

Claire's gone off to do it, happy as anything. Happy days. :)

I'm just letting Alice and the kids get on with it

Seriously - we have most of it completed. I'm really supposed to be wrapping our gifts .. so far I have not done many  I don't see why I need to wrap them anyway .. am using the Gruaniad as wrapping for all the Swiss ones :rotfl:

We said bugger it this year, so I've bought about 3 things. That and thanks to the chavs that woke me up at 3:30 this morning breaking bottles, I was in Tesco at 5am!

I don't bother with Christmas. I'm not religious.

No decorations, no presents, nothing. It's a capitalists dream.

Miserable git.

The pre-Christian, pre-Capitalist pagans used to have a bloody good piss-up once they realised the sun was actually coming back again :drink:

It's the low point of the solar cycle - why not make an effort to lighten the gloom?

I'm not religious either, but Christmas Dinner is one of the highlights of my year :)

I'm not miserable though, contrary to belief.

Best Wishes - no really. :)

This year is my most organised EVER. Been collecting stuff to give for presents since October. A few trips abroad covered most of it so screw you Gordon Brown. Did all the food shopping on Wednesday. Eating out for Christmas Dinner (done that the last 3 years).

Pah! Humbug!
It's pagan and not religious really.

But.. what better way to brighten up the shorted days of the year with decorations, small gifts of friendhip.. and wrapping parcels in newspaper :hehe:

I think if your one of our circle of pals who gets a prezzy - I'd had chosen the Littlejohn page for yours :rotfl:

Christmas dinner?

Having pals around. I usually cook the turkey... basting it.. and then lifting it to the serving dish .. with my wife doing the trimmings whilst the meat "rests"

My wife does the starters and the pud's been maturing for a while now .. yum!

But Merry Christmas everyone anyway!

My good lady has guided me into christmas almost effortlessly. All I've had to trouble myslef to do is to cycle in for the Times this morning along with some lemongrass puree and parsnips!
WTF!

Thank goodness for the internet and Eldon Square. :)

But work has been hectic!

Unfortunately, as seems to be the case every christmas, I've been FLO for too many bereaved families (three this month). Their lives have been completely destroyed this christmas, and it is aways worth remembering the percentage of them whose lives are lost without blame on our roads.

These people give us (me at least) the energy to keep fighting for the road safety improvements we are striving for.

Seconded.

Part of the rush.. concentrating more on the pressures of the season.. and maybe also being persuaded to have that drink as well.

Also - you know - have spent many a Christmas at work in the wards. Whilst the atmosphere is very pleasant - there are also a lot of tears as illness and succumbing to it does not stop for Christmas.

I think we should all spend a quiet moment at Mass tonight thinking of all these people and making a silent prayer for improving our quality of life and quality of safety standards.

On lighter note

Wildy has got all her baking done.. lots of tasty nibbles and mulled wine

Parcels wrapped and some already under the tree. We have the advantage of St Nick after all  And I'm looking forward to playing with the kids' toys!

I think I bought them for me really ... :hehe:

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE :drink: :drink: :bounce: :jester:

Three cheers for internet shopping I say!

I did 90% of my xmas shopping about three weeks ago in a lunch half-hour!

I have just got back from doing my Christmas shopping (wine and cheese!) in France!
The car was treated to some work which was flagged up at the recent service in Kendal... at a fraction of the cost. Enough in fact to cover ferry fare and fuel!! :o
I was told some of the work was not necessary for at least another 10,000 miles, and was shown the Peugeot spec. sheet and recommendations to back up what they said! Are these available to the average motorist? They should be!

The joy was somewhat tempered when I got a call from friends to ask could I bring enough wine back for a funeral, as her sister is in a hospice.

Ian H has hit the nail on the head - there are a number of families who have lost relatives on Cumbria's roads this year, for whom Christmas will be an empty affair. At least my friends have had a week or so to plan theirs, and have the crutch of religious belief to support them.
I cant help feeling in our modern society that we have lost a great deal of good along with our faith.
