No 10 website jammed by spy-in-sky petition
A backlash against the Government's controversial spy-in-the-sky road tax plans has crashed the Downing Street website. More than 105,000 drivers have now signed a petition on the site calling for and end to the draft proposals and the sheer weight of internet traffic has made the system fail.
Last night the thousands of names usually shown were replaced by the error message: "Due to heavy load, the list of signatures is currently not being displayed." The same message then appeared below all other petitions on the site.
The road tax petition is by far the largest the website has hosted. The next largest with only 17000 names, calls for repeal of the hunting ban.
Such huge opposition to the road tax plan raises concerns that what has been touted as one of the Government's most important transport policies could be scrapped.
