bump...

I think some of you are missing a big story here. you realy might want to watch this.
Quote:
"Like Swindon's Dave Lyall, Gareth was sure he was innocent and challenged the fixed penalty:

"I know I was not speeding, I was not going to lose my license or anything, but just a question of principles."

Dr Clark was Mr Pritchard's expert.

Unlike Dave Lyall, Gareth lost at the magistrates court - but he then appealed to the Crown Court and won.

Now a higher court had agreed that the cameras can't always be trusted.

Excellent - a very solid piece of reporting for a regional programme. This is very exploitable, I would have thought?

I doubt his reflection argument would fly if properly scrutinised.
It could be said that the operator, having wrongly formed opinion, also failed to noticed the undertaking (itself not that likely) car, even though it is in very close proximity of the target (undertakee) and going significantly faster than the undertakee. Also, the reflection path would have to exist for 1/3 second.
This is disregarding the fact there would now be 4 sources of attenuation which would be very significant over nominal distances.

The problem with the 'slip down the bonnet' example is that the crosshairs may not be aligned with the scope, the latter may well have been in correct alignment with the laser.
I've just calculated the average speed of that white VW with the cues provided, I put it at around 80mph!
