He's been hauled over the coals by a Judge for using semi prepared speeding charge sheets, just filling in the relevant gaps and scanning the officers signature onto the bottom of it.
If it happens again, the Judge will report it to the DPP.
Lawyers said they feared that such "cutting corners" could interfere with a fundamental element of the legal system.
The prosecuting officers never saw the "sworn statements", let alone signed them.

Nearly laughed my socks off when I read it
:D

I've just read the article. AIUI, anyone having the temerity to plead not-guilty to a speeding charge is entitled to copies of witness statements, including the sworn statement of the police officer or other authorised person in whose name the charge is brought. Now, AIUI, in Brunstromia they were presenting, as bona-fide witness statements, the offense details on a computer-generated forms overlaid by a scan of a police officer's signature without that officer's knowledge or explicit consent.

If my understanding is correct, the persons who were preparing those "witness statements" were creating official documents that purported to be something that they were not; purported to be the sworn statement of someone who hadn't made that statement and who didn't even know the statement existed. Surely, a criminal offense has been committed (forgery and perversion of the course of justice come to mind). If, AIUI, Brunstrom gave instructions that this was to happen, is he not guilty of aiding and abetting a criminal act or at least incitement to commit the same. If so, how can he remain as Chief Constable?

Yes, this was suggested on last night's "Top Gear".

They speculated on whether he would have a very large and hairy "special friend"

I imagine they'll get sackloads of complaints.

Apparently they had far more complaints about driving a Discovery up a Scottish mountain than about failing to wear poppies on Remembrance Sunday - just shows what a twisted set of priorities we have :(
