Decided to pop this in here and not the "Cycling Forum"
This is a fairly new programme - currently being run in the Midlands by businessman and cyclist Darrell West.
Its aim?

This is part of a 4Life suite of programmes aimed at bringing disenfranchised children

back "on task"

within the framework of the National Curriculum.
Over the course of a normal school day, West's teams in Nottingham and Mansfield offer children whose behaviour may be "challenging" within the confines of a classroom, a chance to work as part of a tea, develop skills and bolster their self esteem in a supportive environment.
Bike riding, trail maintenance, bicycle mechanics and other practical skills are taught alongside classroom based studies.
The small groups of children from schools and care centres within the Notts and Leics catchment areas also learn about related topics such as human biology and nutrition 4 life
The programme is on another recruitment drive.. so if anyone lurking is interested - this week's edition of CW has a contact number for Mr West.
A laudable programme - one hopes it will help break the sad cycle we seem to have for too many - of care home to detention centre to "career" of what Norman Stanley Fletcher regarded as an "occpational hazard"
