Where I stay is only now getting eroded by new camera policies and the talivans are out in force on the A77 Glasgow to Ayr road where a convenient 40 limit is in place to "protect the workers", who reside about 300 feet from the roadside but that's beside the point!!!

On this road I had the pleasure of having all my efforts forced into being diverted to checking my speed was on 40 because one of these talivans was sitting conveniently at the side of the road with the little spy camera (CHACHING, CHACHING, CHACHING IT WENT) pointing out the little hatch and I wonder if I was pinged. Now I can't estimate my speed but I know it was around the safe speed for that part of the road say around 47MPH-50MPH.

That is when I noticed the Talivan, braked then looked at my speed, which was coming into 40MPH, while cones and bollards were flying over the bonnet!! So I guess it is wait and see time :( :( :(

Does anyone think i've been pinged or are the Strathclyde illuminati quite leniant?

Andrew

Strathclyde are not to be messed with.

However, a little bird tells me that the 40mph speed limit repeaters on that section of roadworks are illegal. Improper signage is a statutory defence to a speeding charge. The "variations" in the signing have not been tested in court. If this develops - i.e. if you get a NIP, I want to know about it. We might need a test case.

Paul,

on this road I noticed a lot of signposts, one with three actual sign plates on them, one was a 40limit and 2 others I can't remember, Is this not illegal or what. I'll keep you posted if anything happens.

For the record it happened about 12:30PM approx southbound on the A77 section just before a place called Fenwick. Date: Friday the 19th of november.

Andrew

I wish I'd known about the illegal signage!

My wife was pinged on this section in December last year. I got stills from the video and they clearly showed that she was maybe 15 feet on the wrong side of the deristriction signs when they clocked her.

I wanted to fight, but she didn't want to appear in court.

What incensed me at the time was that the car is reg'd in my name and I was asked to identify the driver. The truth was I couldn't honestly and truthfully as all I knew was that my wife and her two sisters had left in the car 2 hours previously.

Regardless of the speed issue, I think the legal abuse regarding forcing information out of me under threat of another penalty is scandalous.

I've only known about it for a couple of weeks. I've had a newspaper along to photograph the signage. If the signage is proved illegal, then everyone nicked during the period of illegal signage (presently an unknown period) will be entitled to have their cases re-examined, and may be entitled to compensation.
