God help us all, if we allow politicians to decide on Eco policy, we are doomed!

As bandwagons go, this seems to be unstoppable, soon, you will have metters in your house, checking out your output of bodily gases!

Obviously nobody seems to have thought what to do about Africa,China and india and every other majot continent, who rely on fossil fuel to cook and heat there homes, maybe a wind up cooking stove is the answer!

Then, we go back into history, when ever home belched out smoke form a coal fire! the smog was a regular event! yet the world, seemed to carry on regardless!

So instead of taxing people to the point of bankrupcy, why has'nt the worlds great scientists, developed options for the the third world, or maybe we could pay thoise farmers off in the Amazon, to stop them destroying the so called lungs of the world!

Common sense from a politician................don't hold your breath! they will have the first seat in the bunker or the space flight to the new world, when things go pear shaped!

Expect to to see the Al gore,Clinton,Blair roadshow in your town soon!

The blurring of political\economic\environmental stance from all the main parties is leaving the electorate with very little choice.

With each party trying to out-pc each other on every issue I can see large numbers of the public either not bothering to vote, spoiling their papers or giving their vote, or even their support, to the extremist parties.

Things are not looking up for us IMO.

Indeed, the "Global" conferences like the G8 etc..... which we hear little of what is discussed there....... leads me to conclude that a "cabal" of the world elite is shaping to herd us mere global underlings like cattle ...to the slaughter....literally, when you come to think about it! (Join the army son?............er... no soddin' thanks mate!).....

I think we're being....."managed" not "Led" don't you?

It was just the same with the application of catalytic converters onto cars. Before they were mandated, the legislature had construction and use regulations which the manufacturers were free to engineer into new vehicles by any means they chose, so long as the requirements were met.
However, instead of simply mandating maximum emission levels on new vehicles, 'cats' were mandated which then negated the work Ford, D-B, and others had done on 'lean-burn' technology which, in fully developed form, would have made 'cats' unnecessary and saved the energy and emisions caused by the manufacture of cats and the increased fuel consumption cats cause. Again, the bloody politicians screwed up and actually increased pollution by their stupidity Nothing new there then!

Indeed, but mandating catalytic converters (a) ensured the stiochometric ratio of fuel/oxygen used by vehicle engines was effectively fixed thereby preventing significant increases in vehicles' mpg that would result from lean burn technology, and (b) that big bung in your exhaust system increases fuel consumption by an average of 10%. The spoils go to the oil companies and the government taxing the fuel.......

I will make a pledge to reduce my (already low) car mileage in proportion to the amount that a lentilist eco politician type is willing to cut down on breathing and farting.

If one of them wants to stop breathing for a week I will stop driving for a week
