what is your occupation?

i am curious as to the people behind the names on this site. obviously we all have the same interests and feel that we can contribute as individuals but i would like to know the kind of variety of profession that we have here pulling together to increase road safety

I am a professionally qualified Management Accountant (CIMA) who for the past few years following redundancy has been mostly doing contract work. In fact I have become a kind of "specialised troubleshooter" sorting out other people's messes. I am currently working on a contract basis for a local authority in Greater Manchester.

I have paid off my mortgage and in the past year have bought a mildly sporty brand new car, so am not pleading poverty :D

Used to look after many tens of multi-disciplined engineers. Now, for the same firm, I help shape its direction for the future.

I am not professionally qualified but I guess many people seem to think I can do my job as an Estimator. I am doing this work on a contract basis.

I mainly estimate for demolitions or new construction but I am not limited to this since my field also includes estimating for computer system and plant modifications.

Mini cog on rail renewals program. Also highly qualified on telecomms side - so if you've got a comms problem - ask - probably can get an answer - especialy if its how to get a phone upstairs to ring, that you've wired yourself- or how to program a Panasonic telecom system --have done miles on cat 5 wiring - so if got a problem - might have an answer. On occasions have been known to throw transit 3.5t around.

recommend a decent cat 5 tester? Occasionally plop some network cables in for people, not enough to make it worth buying top end test kit but had a dicky cable the other day my fisher-price tester insisted was fine.

"Homologation Engineer" -which is a pretty imposing title but it basically means a pen-pusher who puts cars through all their various type approval tests - except in my current job, most of the vehicles I deal with are exempt from the most interesting ones! Previously have been a design engineer for a sports car company and spent a while as a consultant. Managed a small test house for a while.

I'm second in command at an interior landscaping (aka indoor plants in offices) company in Dorset called Stewarts.

I posted the picture of myself leaning on the dead plant for a laugh, as I was expressly told not to take the new blog too seriously.... Job done!

Now partially retired.
Trained as an aeronautical & mechanical engineer with the old deHavilland Aircraft Company. Worked as design engineer and project/sales engineer, then managed a design company. Was a pilot and gliding instructor, semi-professional rally person, ran and part owned a computer aided engineering consultancy and a technical recruitment business. Now work 2 to 3 days a week and spend time restoring old cars (mainly Minis) and, sometimes, rebuilding competition engines of the BMC or Ford variety for historic motor sport to 'top-up' the pension fund.

Now I own a cleaning firm and a laundrette and dabble in property.

Not sure what my job title is (seems there are so many these days) but I write computer applications for a fairly large American domain name registrar.

After leaving uni I did 9 years in the Dept for Employment, that's how long it took me to realise what an utterly crap job it was and how depressing it was, so re-trained through night classes and got a job on the help desk of a local utility company.

Eventually progressed to their web services team where the whole team were "headhunted" by an old boss who had moved to a UK based hosting company. Have been working for the same people since then (10 years) but have had about 8 different employers!

Now work entirely from home which has some benefits mainly financial, but some social downsides.

Now getting bored with coding and want to do something completely different, currently thinking about photography.
