Sorry for the blatant cut and paste, but this is absolutely appauling.

"On the 06 July 2004 Standing Committee E considering the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Bill, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs did not tell the Committee that they were abolishing the rights of citizens to refuse entry to bailiffs established in around 1300, confirmed in Semayne’s case in 1604, and upheld by the courts ever since. The Committee was not informed that it was abolishing centuries of common law. Neither was the measure introduced or debated on the floor of the House of Commons. We demand this fundamental right to freedom from the threat of violence in our own homes be reinstated, and safeguarded for the protection of future generations."

Hardly a surprise though is it. Most bailiffs are ex-police anyway. Gotta guatantee continuity of employment.

Wonder how long it'l last before there's a riot on some council estate as a bailiff is caught trying to break in and "escorted " away by some neighbours, and how long before the police advise bailiffs against this practice as they do not have sufficient staff to protect them

I wonder how long it will take for some clever criminal tries to impersonate such a bailiff......

"you owe £200 of council tax. It's not my problem if you didn't get the mail they sent you.
I'm taking that PS3 as payment....."

There are only 1700 or so Court registered Bailiffs in the country so you can bet your life that there are already criminals impersonating Court appointed Bailiffs. It just so happens that these people are employed by Bailiff companies. It is important for anyone being persued, to ensure that a Bailiff is certificated by the Court, if not, phone the Police!
