I was surprised but pleased to find that one of the questions in the general studies AS paper I sat asked for four reasons why motoring groups and motorists were against speed camera policy.

Easy 10 marks, but it shows that they want to promote independent thought on the subject.

Well I mentioned, lack of significant reduction in trends after 1994, ineffectiveness and negative effect of driver's braking, lack of discretion and that they don't even stop and pull over speeders.

I avoided talking about the revenue side or safe speeding in case it seemed too much against policy.

seems to me that you faced a loaded question....the 'official' perception is that sites such as this regard cameras primarily as revenue raisers with the side effect of preventing us haring around at breakneck speed in the most unsuitable of locations......
Answers to questions of this type are subjective; no doubt the marking scheme will reflect the official thinking - reality doesn't come into it

Maybe your "Easy 10 points" might be optimistic.......and that comment is not intended to diminish your response in any way when you've obviously taken on board the truth - that government policy is an abject failure

That's interesting. I've been filming with Edexcel recently. The materials will be web published and present the mathmatical complexities of evaluating speed camera performance.
