It seem you cannot say there ist "nowt as queer as folk" anymore as you are making some comment against homosexuals apparently  By using word "queer" Nor can you apprently refer in mocking fun to a naff (or can I now say "gay" car being a "bit ginger beer" to handle

Not that Jezza care that much

But what are the wider implications of not being allowed to say "ginger beer" out aloud

The Famous Five (now re-worked for modern times ) cannot describe the activities of the person picking up driftwood on beach in a suspicious way as "queer".. und "George" has become "Ashleigh" und Dick ist now "Harry" und "Ann" ist now "Chloe" .. und they cannot ask for "lashings of ginger beer" und nor can the "girls rustle up food which contain "ham as pink as Timmy's tongue" (Timmy ist no longer a large mongrel by the way .. but a Yorkshire Terrier miniature called "Bob" )

All in the name of "political correctness" of course .. but they still go off in a caravan  all the same.

(I never understood why they were allowed to go off like that anyway - but it was all swashbuckling jolly japes )

Und their driving ability whilst towing this caravan ..they handle it all a "bit ginger beer" :yikes:

Und as for "gay" - it has now changed its meaning again  It used to mean "cheerful, carefree, colourful" It then become slang for homosexual und accepted term. Now it have another meaning of "lame/naff/pants"

Ist very confusing this language of yours. I now do not know if I can order "ginger beer" und refer to it being "gay" or "pants" or "lame" if it loses its fizz.

So what words in English language have changed meaning in your short lifetimes und what bothers have you got into over these?

Und :nono: nothing rudey.. This ist family site  But you can see my problem.

Not only do I have to confront my little idiosyncrasy over some daft spellings .. I then find words which I once had vocab tests in now mean something completely different und I had better not go into the that post I once made over a string of pearls. I was seriously discussing the beauty of pearls of jewellery.

Apparently I broke other people's keyboards

But I know language ist ephemeral - liquid in that it mould to the society which use it at the time. No doubt words we ue today become the taboo word of tomorrow whilst current :censored: become accepted in refinded und polite society

Would this enrich the language? Personally I think not und I think some words should keep their original meaning so as not to cause confusions.
