I'm fabricating a remote filter housing for my bike and I need to know which way the oil is supposed to flow through the filter. I've got a cartridge filter but it has no markings on it to tell me which way round to plumb it :?

if i remember this right, in a spin-on type canister the oil comes OUT through the hole in the middle and in through the holes around the outer edge.

It is.

Beware as the anti-drain valve won't work if it is plumbed the other way. Or rather it will. Permanently!

We use a remote filter on the race car. Its a Mocal unit.

Check this one..

On race engine applications it is better to flow from the outside. If you uses a cartridge filter you can then inspect the filter for debris periodically. It is an early indication of mechanical failure when you have lumps of metal in the filter.... :o

MAybe you should get a few made and sell 'em on e-bay

Just a suggestion.......turn some fins in the housing and you will cool the oil as well.

The oil doesn't actually flow through the lower half housing, its just there for cosmetic value (and somewhere convenient to put the mounting bracket - that way I can turn it by hand rather than needing a 3 axis CNC mill...)

I'm fitting an oil cooler anyway.

:D
