Very Off topic, sorry.

I have, today acquired an iPod. The device and is great and wonderful, very easy to use and navigate. However the iTunes program which you use to transfer Mp3 on to the device appears to be programmed by the devil himself, is a stark contrast to the device.

Problems:
It appears to auto select all songs from the library, and transfers them on to the device-which I don't want.
Importing Mp3 from my media player library is a long drawn out affair, as I can either transfer idvidual files, one at a time (My Mp3 library >10 Gig). Or whole folders (albums), which is quicker. However I then have to go though and de-select tracks I don’t want.

Help I can’t find a manual on there website.

Don't let the Iranians see your new iPod, particularly if you are of a seafaring bent!

The trick is to go into the settings of iTunes and deselect the option to automatically sync the whole of your library, so you can do it manually.

You can get iTunes to search your whole computer for compatible media, to save importing tunes/albums one by one.

Create a playlist, into which you drag the songs you want on your iPod.

Once you have the playlist, drag it onto the iPod and let it transfer over.

Hope this helps.

Ahh, there's your error you see. You should have gone for the Creative Zen, much, much more user friendly.

see the little tick by each song. untick the box and that song will be removed from your ipod on the next link up.

I dont have these difficulties with my MP3 player from ASDA.

256mb for £4.95 (it's now gone back up to £9.95)!
You just open up an explore window and drag the files across! :)

I can give advice to anyone (except Ernest :P) suffering from an annoying distortion when they enable their equaliser (using MP3gain, EUpod).

The iPod and its software, in common with a lot of devices which can be firmware updated, suffer from the rush to get products to market. In the past, products had to be tested properly as once released, major flaws would prompt an expensive recall. Now, defects are fixed by issuing a firmware fix for the user to install. Thus half-developed products can be released for sale with impunity.

I think software itself suffers from this problem really badly as it is developed by specialists who don't really understand that "dumb" members of the public won't be able to understand it or use it easily.

Hence the helpline and the typical response "Well, just right click on properties, go to the advanced tab and set parameter X to No." all of which is, surprise, surprise, undocumented anywhere.

Of course it is, wanna swap any songs from your iPod to my Zen? Oh wait no you can't can you? Not unless you've got some 3rd party hack for the software that is

The thing I thought awful about the Creative product was the sound quality. It sounded muddled, congested and lacking in detail.

I've got a Sony NW-HD3. User interface 3/10, software 1/10, battery life 9/10, sound quality 9/10.

I agree but have just moved to a small pda with a built in MP3 player as I got fed up carrying a branch of Dixons around with me.
The battery life is great and the sound quality is up there with the Zen.
Plus I get to have my camera, organiser, satnav, games, wifi, movie player ('Smoking Aces' at the moment) and telephone in one unit.

Great Idea!!!! I will by a 4X4 and drive one handed, while selecting my iTune with the other.

All the ipods are connected to BOSE headphones, very misleading

Anapod is your friend!

I think there are other alternatives, some freeware, like Floola, that can make the ipod a more user friendly tool.

I bought an iRiver machine in preference to the ipod, partly because it plays more file types but also because I would never, ever install itunes on my computer!
And if you really want to hear your music at its best, despite the compression to mp3 or whatever format your machine favours, I heartily recommend the investment in a pair of Grado headphones. They may look a bit odd and old fashioned but the sound will make it all worthwhile.
I searched around and found an American store that would ship to the UK, thus avoiding the 1:1 exchange rate found in many places. ($75 US price = £75 UK price!)
