Just listened to the Jeremy Vine show today, on the subject of cyclists and their use of roads and pavements.
On my way home from work, early for a change, driving upt to the roundabout by the local Technical College, I was doing about 20mph, cyclist on the pavement, just as I came level with his back wheel the cretin decided to just dive onto the road in front of me without any thought of looking behind himself.
How I didn't hit him, I don't know, I just slammed on and then hit the horn, he just carried on, oblivious to the fact he had just missed a ride on my bonnet and a ride in a big white van to the hospital.
I assume he was a student at the college, so he must be one of those educated idiots we hear about, either that, or he is training to be a H&S inspector.

Far too many of these a*seholes around, they give cyclists who do respect others a bad name.

On a plus point apparently plastic-policemen are being given the powers to issue on-the-spot-fines for cyclists on pavements.

Probably the new Kengestion :D

I have witnessed from the background of unrelated news reports in London where the reporter is standing next to a road with set of lights and the last 2 times a bike has went right through a red. I don't think I would stop for the red light jumping git you know :?

As a keen cyclist, it's disapointing to see this sort of behaviour. I only wish this country had the same sort of facilities I saw for cyclists in France. On a reasuring note, I would never behave like this, as my ultra light lush road bike doesnt much like bunny hops :D

Yes, the rogue cyclists that exist do give fellow road-savvy, law-abiding cyclists a bad name.

Ditto for motorists I guess - if someone started a new thread each time they saw a motorist do an illegal U turn, illegal right turn, jump a red light, drive on a pavement, drive without lights, drive without insurance, drive without MOT, drive without VED, drive without licence, drive without regard for other road users, drive whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drive whilst using a hand held mobile phone, drive whilst reading a map or newspaper, pull out of a junction or parking space without due observation, or any other numpty action that could endanger lives or wellbeing, there would be a heck of a lot of new threads each day.

Tell us more about the radio programme anyway.

Oh good grief Cleopatra, it was back in november, and my CRAFT syndrome is bad at the moment,(Can't Remember A Flipping Thing, CRAFT), and I've listened to a lot of his programmes since.
I'm an ex cyclist, back when there was room for us both on the roads, this is why I get so annoyed with cretinous, suicidal cyclists, the good ones, those with lights and proper road behaviour, I have all the time and respect in the world.

Coming out of Louth the other week, there is a nasty "S" bend, with no lights, plenty of tree cover and No pavement, and there were TWO cyclists walking their bikes, no lights, and only dark clothing, I only just saw them at the last second, thank God there was no traffic coming the other way, otherwise??????????, and if I had been driving my truck?????????

Bit off topic but making a point.

I think Wildy listened to it and think she probably taped it for me to listen to later - but I never got round to it. She seems to recall our pal Monbiot was the oppo - and there was a lot of spouting about evil 4 x4 owners and so on... She does recall an waful lot of listeners calling in complaining about the general behaviour of cyclists and Monbiot though - which did not surprise her unduly.

These idiots do give cyclists a bad name only two nights ago I was cycling home from work along a narrow but busy road well lit and reflective gear on when a BMX kid in black hooded top no lights hops off the pavement to avoid pedestrians without so much as a corsory glance, I had half anticipated this having seen him on the pavement and passed him close enough to tap his head and tell him to get some lights or die young   sad thing is he will soon be at an age to get his 'Chav Nova' and be more of a danger
