It seems you have more chance of being an SI stat shopping in Manchester's PEDESTRIANISED Market Street than on any other road in the UK!

Will they use ped scams? Well they have CCTV..

SHOPPERS are going bump... in Manchester city centre.
Almost 40,000 of us have collided with an obstacle course of bins, lampposts, benches and advertising boards on Market Street in the last year.
Navigating street furniture is emerging as a new hazard of city centre life with the amazing figures putting Manchester's main shopping street among the top three obstacle injury hotspots in the country, according to the new study by charity Living Streets.
ple texting and talking on mobile phones while they walk is named as one of the most common causes of the 39,563 bumps and trips on Market Street.
I do loathe these phones as intrusive. But I can foresee a time coming soon when they need another very milky cow. After all.. once they price the drivers off the road -

they need "udder" means of milking the public

An estimated 6.5m pedestrians collide with posts, poles and other inanimate objects on streets each year.
A Living Streets spokesman said: "People are so busy getting from A to B they don't tend to give their full attention to walking, which should be a fairly easy task. A-boards outside shops are a big problem because they are not at eye level.
COAST does actually work for walking

"We clearly need to reduce the amount of obstacles and local authorities should think twice about installing new, or unnecessary sign posts. Removing redundant street furniture would also help to reduce the risk of accidents."
More than half of us have collided with street clutter in the past five years. Only London's Brick Lane and Birmingham's New Street are more hazardous than Market Street.
Hmmm....they don't look where they are going
Discuss...

Sally Newton, of Market Street's What A Potato stall, has watched shoppers tripping up for 17 years.
Sally, 43, said: "People are constantly walking into this signpost just in front of our stall.
"I don't know why, it's like it's invisible. Maybe they're just not watching where they're going, or window shopping. It can be quite funny, unless they hurt themselves."
Coun Pat Karney said: "Years ago we moved all the street furniture down the middle of the street to avoid this.
"It's the second busiest shopping street after Oxford Street in London and there's often buskers which I've seen distract people.
"If it will help I'll wear a placard warning people to avoid the `clutter'."

They WILL walk into YOU!
OK..
Discuss. Should all clutter be removed?
Or does an inablity to look where they are going account for why they walk in front of cars and bicycles?
Oh.. and remember .. we are all shopping PEDESTRIANS
(I've never walked into anything by the way
