56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

I knew it! I said from the very beginning (and was accused by all I know of being paranoid) that the Oyster card was being forced upon us so they could track our movements. Everyones jumped at it cos he's offered it with "cheaper" fares (in reality just not increasing fares as much) and with plans to close Manned Ticket offices soon you wont be able to (or be able to afford to) get around without one.

I tend to grab a daily travelcard still despite the additional cost, seeing as how the Oyster card I did eventually get never works properly anyway

they have the anonymous pre-pay ones, that always stop working the barriers (although they still keep accepting top-ups, no prob!) and to claim your money back you have to write to an address supplying all your details...

Hang on. Are you saying that the anonymous ones are more likely to cease to work in the barriers than the registered ones, and that you think it might be an engineered-in failure so that you have to supply your details?

I wouldn't put anything past TfL, but that does seem exceptionally naughty, even for them.

The real bonanza for Ken will be when he starts selling the data to private companies. Imagine how much a chain looking to open a new store in London will pay for data that tells them where their target demograph travel to most often.

Along with your mobile number, then they'll send you texts when you're in "range", helped by the mobile companies who will, no doubt, hold the texts until the system puts you in the advertisers general location. Another reason to stop putting your mobile number on forms.
