As the title, what do you rely on for news, TV, newspapers and internet (or elsewhere), and how do you rate it for quality and neutrality?

I used to watch beeb news now and then to catch up, but several recent articles have left me feeling I'd rather look elsewhere for more balence.

sometimes I also read the reuters reports, as I feel there's slightly more chance I'm getting the news before someones moulded it.

Good question Hairyben! (Thought I'd jump in 1st.)

I have done more U-turns on this subject than a captive animal in a small zoo, and I have come to the conclusion that it isn't so much who/what to believe as who/what not to believe.

I don't think there is such thing as an impartial media. (I wish there were)

Anyone remember the ad for The Independent where two typewriters representing two opposing viewpoints were writing on the same paper? (If only  )

So on local and national issues, I look around and see for myself what is actually happening. examples: Our population is getting less, we are living longer, crime is down, there's meat in hamburgers... ;)

Seriously, the BBC are, IMHO, at or near the top of the best! But they are by no means perfect. When I was living in America there are well-respected leaders in news, mentioning no names, whom I found quite shocking, as an Englishman. But who was right? Who do you beleive?

So when it comes to international news? The view you get of your country is very different to what you may expect to hear abroad!

I will watch this thread with great interest.

Interesting..

I use BBC, SKY and the on-line telegraph. Have got to agree that despite the lashing they get I usually go to the BBC site first.

I never watch TV except for Six Nations/World Cup Rugby.

I read the Telegraph (no surprises there!) the Western Morning News and the West Somerset Free Press (i.e. one national, one regional and one local newspaper).

I occasionally look at the BBC news on the Internet, but I find it depressingly left-liberal, very "dumbed-down" and obsessed with MMGW.

I like The Scotsman website. Not the editorial content. It is so biased in favour of the Scottish Labour Party it is now a joke. What I like is the reader's comments!

I look to the BBC to find the story, then try and check the facts using google to find local news reports of the same story.

You can NEVER rely 100% on reported news, or eye witness views either
My wife once reported witnessing a car in front of her, hit somebody on a crossing at 30 mph - but admitted when I asked that she was NOT doing 30 mph herself, yet neither was the car in front pulling away from her at the time! :(

BiB check those sort of "facts" but news media does not.
