On Friday 6th June my friend, brother and I are going to a concert at/in Wembley Stadium. My brother is coming own here so we will all be travelling together. I live toward the end of the Fenchurch Street line in to London. Any ideas as to the best way to get to wembley. My friend went there with her other half to watch England and said it was a nightmare on the train, but she wondered if it was just football fans being stupid. Is it possible to drive around M25 and park the car at a train station and come in on the train?

Thanks

Drive to Watford, and get the train from there direct to either North Wembley or Wembley Central.

Or just get a train to Fenchurch St, walk to Aldgate tube, get the Circle line to Baker St and then the Bakerloo line to Wembley?

The earlier you go the better it will be!

This isn't going to help you but ...

Wembley is the most dumbass place to put any venue which involves lots of people travelling to it. God knows why they didn't move the stadium to a better location when they were rebuilding it. Somewhere near the motorway network perhaps?

Ah, of course Government policy decrees that nobody shall use their cars to go anywhere. Hence the Olympics have almost no parking. I wonder if whoever is the Prime Minister then will get there by train? Thought not. Hypocrites.

Thank god the Olympics has no parking.

You probably heard about the 30 mile queues on the M6 and M61 when Rangers came to Manchester.... absolute gridlock in the City Centre for nearly 8 hours.

I can't even begin to imagine the chaos that would ensue at the Olympic venues in London if people decided to go by car, as presumably there would be similar numbers of spectators.

So why didn’t they build a new stadium outside of any cities then? as Malcolm says. As for the games, public transport won’t cope with it, and London can’t cope as it is. I wouldn’t go near the place if I was still in the UK.

I don't know where the Man U stadium is situated but presumably these jams occur at every game as I hear they are reasonably popular. I don't know why this match should have been any different.

Anyway, why should the public be greatly inconvenienced by a mere sports game? Plan ahead to cope with the traffic. The public have voted with their wheels. They want car access not some crap public service where you can get knifed for looking at someone the wrong way.

Why is it that roads can be closed for the Tour de France but not for road rallying? Pure prejudice against cars.

The majority of Man United fans don't drive to the games. Old Trafford is about a 20 minute walk out of Manchester City Centre and the Metrolink tram system has a stop outside the ground. The traffic is heavy but manageable before and after a match.

On Wednesday with Rangers, we had the scenario of 100,000 people coming into Manchester - a large proportion of them by road. The network just can't cope with that increase in traffic. There were a few accidents as well which added to the misery.

Now imagine that same scenario in London... for four weeks.

Of course you'll have seen the tales of the Ricoh stadium - not so old , nearbye residents get free parking permits ,and from recent press reports ,the powers that be couldn't /didn't equate the seating capacity with spaces needed .From the reports in local papers the saga of the trip to the brewery comes to mind

I have done a little reasurch today (phoned national rail enquiries), Watford it is. It might take an hour to get to watford in the car and it's 25 mins in to wembley from there. It's about 2.5 hours from Southend on the train  , so no contest.

It's not getting there I am worried about BTW, I've got the day off and it's an all day concert, while the main act not comming of untill the evening. It's the coming out process I wish to improve upon :) .

Thank you very much sir :bighand:
