It is really, isn't it?

1. I don't SafeSpeed mentioned anymore on radio, or TV, when it used to be frequent.
2. The board has turned into a "Daily Mail" complaints section about how we are being robbed daily by the Government.
3. There's no campaigning going on. The website is never updated.

TIme to knock it on the head?

Why ?
Campaigning does little anyway, it hasn't achieved much for years now.
And that is irrespective of who is doing it.
Campaigning isn't going to build the [nuclear] power stations that we need, in fact the opposite.
It isn't going to stop the power blackouts coming this winter.
Campaigning in the press is frequently counter-productive, mainly because the press is not neutral and is very easily swayed by government.
Campaigning will not lower the price of food, in fact campaigning to increase the price of fuel is only going to make it worse.
Campaigning will not stop the slide backwards, into fuel poverty, food poverty and anarchy.
A good reason for keeping the site going, and maybe (from your viewpoint) the only one, is that it seems to piss you off.

Individual posters who don't wish to stay around are more than welcome to vote with their feet.

I think it really depends what you mean by "Campaign". Only the other day I say Claire quoted in something or other (well done Claire)! The fact that this forum actually exists, however, is also a campaign, of sorts. OK, you might think (or you might WANT to think!) that this is just a load of embittered anti-camera motoring anrachists getting together to bitch about the government impinging on their freedom, but you have no idea who lurks on here. We know there are a few high-profile lurkers who could influence police and government policy. You also have no way of knowing what things WOULD have been like had SS never existed...

Hmm, I don't think there's been any press releases lately. But then running Safe Speed is a full-time job, with a vacant full-time position.

Well, I can't speak for all of them, but I suspect most are more members of the "embittered anti-camera motoring anrachists" (sic).

ROFLMAO

I think Martin has hit on Safespeed's own Inconvenient Truth.

When you've got what you want (no cars and everyone on't bus) and fares are £6.00/mile.
Your council tax will be £3000.00/year.
Your income tax will be 30% (low rate) and 30% (high rate).
Your NI will be 15% (high earners=1%).
You will have to pay compulsory cycle insurance (more bikes = more accidents = more injuries = more costs) and register same (not for the money, for the anti-crime effect that a number plate has)
After all, the channie will have to recoup lost money from somewhere.
Mind you, we'll all have better health (apart from those diesel fumes....) so the NHS cost will be lower (apart from cyclists injuries)
You'll be living in your eco-town, with your waste recycled and used for water and heating/electricity.
Bit of a bummer when the bus/train staff strike....
Mind you, since the services won't run after midnight anyway....
Doesn't effect me much....
Fuel 55p/litre at the moment (cash-n-carry).
Road tax lower than a 4X4 but exhaust dirtier (apart from the veggie fuel)
Insurance £112.00/year.
£750.00 investment in waste oil processor to give low-visc oil at 60p/litre.....(prices of food oils are bound to rise soon) will give me fuel for yonks....
Brighton-bound soon...checked the train....there-and-back = £65.00.....sod that....road fuel = £20.00...
Edinburgh later this year....hmmm...plane £50.00 return....train £101.00 return...car....who cares, not driving...take the plane....what ?....take a bus ?....I'd sooner eat shit.

If you had just managed to get house prices, immigrants and the royal family in there somewhere, Paul Dacre (or whoever the current scum lord is at the Waily) would be beating a path to your door.

On the contrary .. it's not.

Give Claire time. She's still in grief.. coming to terms with the enormity of her personal loss.

She's got more spunk in her little finger than most of us. There have been some PR.. radio interviews which reflect very positively on Claire. I do not think you or me could be so .. so .. BRAVE.

I admit to falling apart and relying on family when it looked like I was losing Wildy :neko:

Oh yes.. she can grate with the incessant disregard of the English language . .. but she does sound as she types. I have lived with it long enough now to be "immunised"... but the lilting cross of Garbo v Dietrich.. it .. errrrrr

:flamethrow: :gatso1: :gatso2: :gatso3:  :bighand:   :yesyes: :stirthepot: :censored: :boxedin:  :rotfl:

Ummm .. if you catch the daft drift there .. my mate.

I think Claire feels the same over Paul. She's doing fine. A credit to her.

I challenge you nown Martin.

How far could you fight if you lost your soul mate as Claire has done?

I fell apart when I nearly lost my Wildy :neko: I needed my family and her family to help there.

Takes courage. She has it. She has done her best throughout this period of mourning to date. Far more than one should expect and we should all be helping in whatever way we can here.

I would remind you that the national road death stats are due out today. Wherther you are pro or anti speed cameras , cars, chicanes or public transport, the road death figures are way too high and should be lower.

We all want them lower. We might differ on the way to lower them.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what purpose this thread serves. I don't see anything constructive, or even anything of substance, just a schoolyard taunt "you've lost, haven't you".

I don't feel that SS or anyone else has any requirement to justify themselves to this kind of puerile attitude, and would suggest that its quite obvious that this thread is merely meant to inflame and provoke; predictably infantile behaviour from the 'paton' usernames of late, though I am disappointed at Handy, jumping in trying to twist his little knife.

The irony is that the very fact this thread is able to exist means the campaign is still present. This is effectively a 'Moonbat-like' implication that something akin to peer-review is required to assess the efficacy of the campaign at any given moment, and the moment there is a lull it ceases to be valid!

Totally agreed.

Given the circumstances, the original post was unbelievably crass and offensive.

Claire and a lot of the rest of us are doing our best to keep the flame alive.

Couldnt disagree more with the o/p, the campaigns just starting.

Just because you dont see any action dosent mean its not happening. We all do our bit in our own way. The fight goes on, and on and on until we win the argument.
