If you are thinking of visiting Cumbria this weekend, there are one or two events on to consider - either to visit, or which might hold you up!
1. The Cumbria Vintage Vehicle Society's Steam Gathering event at Cark airfield, Flookbrough. This will see heavy vehicles towing traction engines on the roads along the A590 and to the M6 Junction 36 - you might even be unlucky enough to get stuck behind a steamer on the road, as some are driven to the show in steam!
2. Windermere Airshow. Minus the Red Arrows this year (aside from a flypast on Sunday) but two days of aerobatics, and flying displays, and static displays in Bowness on Windermere. 56,000 people expected for a great weekend out. Plenty to see and do, but not many places to park!
3. Penrith Show - watch out for increased traffic around the A66 and M6 junction.
4. Staveley Beer Festival the Hawkshead Brewery today (24th) until Sunday 27th. Music, food, and of course a wide range of beers from Lakeland's premier micro brewery.
Parking should be OK, but you might have to get the wife to drive, and treat her to a shopping spree in Lakeland's Windermere shop!! Look at it this way - it might improve her cooking, but if you try enough of Hawksheads product you may not care if it doesn't!
Whichever event you choose to visit, watch out for the CSCP talivans, as they make a lot more dosh during the tourist season, and will be out mob handed earning their bonuses and doing little to improve safety - 90% of accident causes go unaddressed!!
