Just when you thought the fight had been won, here it is again.

Quote:
thus it is that the new alliance of tech companies will be looking to develop some kind of in-car tracking or tagging kit which will more reliably identify a car than numberplates do.

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

a german manufacturer is making it? what are you worried about then? if its anything like the autobahn charging system you will be able to get round it by sticking a bit of foil on top of it :drink:

the fight's not winnable, a change is inevitable imo.

the current combination of licensing an taxation is rubbish.

quite when & what is the debate.

Which is why the news of log distance SPECS systems starts to worry me - Take the M1 for example -(COUPLE specs WITH anpr ,link up to central database )stick camera on entrance and one every exit ,per lane - hey presto they know how far any vehicle travelled on the M 1( and if reg is genuine -who to send bill to ) - no need for in car trackers which could "fail "

Please tell me that it's not possible- looks very much like the way to go -only good point is HMG track record of IT projects.

sounds technically perfectly possible, although my thoughts on government IT systems echo yours.

but how much coverage nationally would you need to make it workable ?

how about reduced road tax with pay as you use motorways ?

REDUCED ROAD TAX -shush - Gordon will have a heart attack .

Anyway ,motorway was example - would only take cameras dotted around , say road junctions/roundabouts etc then both tagging and charging would be possible ,but way round it - car owners of same vehicle /same coulour club together ,buy several sets of plates and use same plate each day on each car .

Except for limited access roads like motorways, long distance specs won't stop "speeding". For example, I could take a lengthy route at high speed past two linked cameras or a direct route within the limit. Alternatively, why not pass one camera, stop for a bit and then have fun.

It's all for tracking people.

Quite right Malcolm, I wonder what the response of the public would be if they said: "You WILL be chipped, and your movements will be tracked daily everytime you leave your house and kept on record for over 5yrs!"..

So what is the difference these days just because you climb into your car? Frankly I'm Appalled that a "so called" Labour Government is doing this...

It's something that you would expect from the Fascist Hitler-ist right!........

Right down the BNP's street I suspect.....

Just like the two parties locally telling an elected BMP man that he could not get involved in overseeing the local youth activities in his ward ---almost blew up in their faces

And after it has left the station, you find the fare has doubled because you live in the "right" area:-------

Next new "cottage industry " (to grow up in council estates ) - "vehicle tenancy addresses"
