Just to redress and discuss "political correctness" and its accomplices "Elf and Safetits."

With some dropped jaw - I made the mistake of picking up the tabloids over coffee with doughnuts the othr morning and read about

1. The school who decided to hold some staff jolly in Spain - leaving closing the school early in the essential learning curve of a new academic schoool year  This was called off following an outcry from the parents - but still paid for from school funds  alllegedly

2, Then I wasted  what was a really good cream and jam filled doughnut by almost choking on it as I then read about the school which has scrapped all homework and related tests which require the seven year olds to .. er .. learn how to spell - on the grounds that it is "far tooo distressing" to expect a child to memorise some basics.

Of course - it is frustrating when you spelled the words correctly to Mum and Dad .. and then forget when tested in class... but hey - that's part of life. Wildy :neko: frequently got marked down, served out many a detention for "not bothering to learn her spelling and talking in class" - but apart from a tendency to type words as they sound to her - it does not seem to have caused much "negative effect" as regards the rest of her education.

Making excuses then is not only patronising - it feeds that "sense of failure" and an inability to learn or wish to learn more.

But then we came to Poliically Corrects pals "elf and safetits" :banghead:

4. Cast your minds back to a tragedy whereby an estranged husband shot dead his ex-wife and her sister. The politically correct decided to allow bail the man - with a history of violence. (As they did with a certain policeman who took his own life after murdering his mother-in-law whom he believed to be the main witness for the prosecution case against him at the time .. and as they did with the thug who kicked to death a man in Warrington - just because he asked him and his pals not to damage his wife's car :banghead:) .

Risk assessment of actual danger comes when deciding just how dangerous a person may be .. and should be based on the material evidence the police actually provided with THEIR recommnedation of remand in a very objective review of public safety and interests at the time. :banghead:

But no.. we (police) got hammered in the press by preventing the paramedics from treating the sisters as we needed to 100% sure of their safety. Such healthy abd balanced consideration was Health and Safety as opposed to their pretend "wannabes" of Elf and Safetits.

Elf and Safetits undermine Health and Safety and the fabric of healthy lifestyles to a despairing degree of bleak future ahead and obliteration of tried, tested and true common sense and traditional fun as enjoyed by our culture throughout history.

4. If I wish to play conkers - I have to wear safety goggles and wrist padding less the conker split.. blind me and break my wrist   (It seems a Cumbrian school is the culprit for the war on conker championships. )

5. Such daftness has been played out by the zealots and the ambulance chasers who have created fear of childhood games in case of injury and also a fear of "proper risk assessment" :banghead:

In fact - we now have folk scared of allowing their child to walk to school - let alone bicycle ... just in case some camera toting adult pops out from behind a lamp post and takes their photo!

Such is the level of paranoia that school foreign language "exchanges" are out of the question as the French/Geman/ etc family need to be CREB checked  . So far this has not become a requirement for the now "obligatory sleep over at the best schoolpal's house"  :scratchchin:

6. Which leads us to David Cameron's rant that teachers are no longer allowed to place a plaster on a child's grazed knee. A result of the fear culture which makes any adult male or female wary of touching any child in their care or within sight - lest the word "abuse" is screamed at them in a shrill voice with pointing fingers

7, Elf and Safetits appear to be the only growth area in a now failing economy. There's money to be made in it. >banghead: For example - the Catholic church in Surry which has to pay £1300 in scaffolding each time a light bulb needs changing. In the many years of its history with electric lighting - no priest or monk has been killed changing a bulb there.

Or what about the old dears who have Meals on Wheels services. Paper napkins are "out". The old dears may mistake them for "food and choke on them"

We then have the parent who turned up at the local swimming pool with her three children. She was refused entry because she could not give each child "one-to-one" constant supervision The pool claimed the Instutute of Sports management had advised them... and they charge each sports facility a whopping £255 for a Opertating Procedures Manual and £235 for the Risk Assessment book - plus a few thousand for in situ advice plus umpteen equally expensive courses.

Yep... Elf .. Safetits .. Greeny cults and whims. Rather lucrative businesses and sadly the only ones now making money and profit

I am waiting for this industry to go from boom to bust .. and perhaps then I can make my millions by selling "common sense"

But then we have the honest citizen who ,fed up with damage to his car /property sets up video camera, or takes photo of some young vandal in action . Dare he use the evidence for fear of being branded a "pervert " who takes pictures of young children.Put up a warning notice and wait for the threats to roll in .
But then , the offended is not the victim - it's the security measures set up to catch the offenders

I am very suspicious of the motives of people who take jobs as CCTV centre observers. They must be perverts who want to spy on children ...

The councillors who agree to set up these cameras must be part of a paedophile ring and must immediately be arrested ...

[Legal disclaimer: This only applies in Belgium, of course.]

Strangely enough ,years ago ,when CCTV was introduced , it was announced that it was firm policy that CCTV would NOT be deployed in residential areas. Now have a drive around, certainly in council estates ,look out for "lampposts " with no light at the top . And close to the top -a dome like thingy with a black cover -- OH YES IT IS - it's a CCTV put up "to observe crime and disorder " by the police with council ( info is sent ??? by radio link). No notice is seen proclaiming this fact -like a private citizen would have to .
But ,like granny groups of speed observers - there are little groups of crime protesters . The police locally hold meetings with council officials and members of the public (can't remember what they're called ). Attended one once -after some very patronising wordsfrom politicians and police officials -the message was the same as given out for car crime -"together we'll crack it ".The cameras were suppossed to make up for the removal of the two CBO from the area ,but there was only a limited number of them etc etc .Then we all heard that PCSO would patrol .From my observations ,they either appear in groups of two or three .Two -on patrol -one to get them there ,the other to guide them back .When there's three -they're going out to interview someone .The third one is the interviewer -it's too much to expect the other two to do both jobs . Put this theory to a Sergeant who used to be in charge of our CBO's,and had PCSO's from day one --suffice to say he could not comment - officially --

I recently had the mad Doc's sister on the phone to me for .. HOURS!

Why? Her car ..

She parked on supermarket car park. She returned to find a dent ,. so intense it pierced through. Furtherinvestigation rev#ealed teenageger sitting in tthe trollies and being shoved. Add their added weight .. you get serious dings and dent :furious:

Jazz .. being well .. Jazz  I gather said supermarket have paid to fix her cat :rotfl: and promised Coin control when they complete a full rebuild of their store.

But worryingly Jazz got ... "CCTV has to zoom in to cop the offence".. to which Jazz in true Swiss style or as merits the sister of the mad Doc retaliated with "had she dropped a crumb of a cake she was eating - she;d be fined by same camera evidence."

Per her account

Quote:

all went silent as the lady considered her reply to my wailings of dented metal

The woman then replied very politely that the camera operator had to zoom in to any crime ,.to record it.

Jazz.. I fear is not convinced but a bloke she knows .. who fixes her Ford Zodiac and Jhe sister Ju Ju's "Consul£ and another classic in the sahpe of a Zephyr owned by that bunch of "rebels" :P can fix this vehicle at affordarble and totally qualtity workmanship cost. He fixes police cars  Sadly his price make "via insunace not viable" and in these days of economic uncertainlty - she considers "own budget cost for a minor" as most cost effective course,/

I happen to agree with her logic.

Seriously - tis time that the supermarkets are made responsible for damage to vehicles parked there in .I personally seek out a space in Sainsbury's at the edge - and then park over the line -so that any person in any kiddiemobile opening a door cannot hit mine - and say to the parking attendant -"ticket me " - might be an expensive one for Sainsburies --so far -they decline .

Regarding supermarkets, either park right at the edge, and uphill if possible (why do supermarket car parks always have a slope that means the trolly rolls away) or if possible just dont take a nice car to the supermarket. We keep an old shed as a spare car for use when one of ours is broken, the make and model varies from time to time (currently it's a Volvo 940 with several large dents from the previous owner) and do the weekly shopping trip in that just to give the car some exercise.

I know which one will come off worse if there's an impact between a Volvo and a chav in a shopping trolley (an actual one, not a Corsa).. sorry officer he just appeared out of nowhere.

Also every time someone writes Elf and Safetits, I keep thinking we need a pair cartoon caricatures that could then be turned into a smiley.

Fella's, I ALWAYS park at the furthest point away from the supermarket door after dropping off the Wife (I care for my car you see). It's expensive and a "Ding" in the door would be more so. Sometimes I stay in the car because I don't trust the B******ds! And sure enough, there I am in the middle of nowhere, furthest from the shop doors, nothing around me, loads of space around me, and some pratt drives in, Opposing direction, 4 inches from my door, stops and expects to get out.......

I look at them, shake my head, start up, and drive forward to a free space!

Please tell me!...Where do these cretins come from?......

Sometimes they even have a car-load of kids to fling the doors open with abandon.....

Save me from these cretins!.......Please!
