Teacher's ABC crash blunder
Exclusive Yakub Qureshi

IT was perhaps not the best place for a teacher to have a little car trouble.

Youngsters arriving for school Broadoak High in Partington, Sale, were greeted by a member of staff's damaged Honda Hatchback suspiciously close to a car-shaped hole in the canteen wall.

The supply teacher, who takes English lessons at the 400-pupil school, was parking before lessons began when she got in a muddle with her ABCs - accelerator, brake and clutch.

She pressed the wrong pedal as she pulled into the parking bay and instead of drawing to a halt, the five-year-old car lurched forwards and shot through the brick wall.

The teacher wasn't hurt but was taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up. No one else was injured in the collision.

School officials had to close the canteen while engineers assessed the damaged wall and students and staff ate their meals in another school building.

The teacher regularly works at the school, which is one of the fastest-improving in the country, according to latest league tables.

Headteacher Andy G said: "She put her foot down on the accelerator rather than the brake. It was a temporary slip up. Fortunately she is okay and no one was hurt.

"It was a fairly small car but it has gone right through one of our walls and caused significant damage. There is quite a big gap.

"We're going to get people down to survey the damage so we're not sure how long it will take to fix.

"The canteen is closed-off to pupils but fortunately our main assembly hall is next door so we will be using that instead."

I think her students like her though.. They were more understanding in the comments on the story on the website.

She must have been a bit heavy on the throttle though :?

Bet her lessons are fun though

Has anyone else done something dumb? (I've never pranged anything .. the accident in rear end und the hit in car park were non faults..

Setting of backwards instead of forwards! But that was due to a badly designed gear stick not my stupidity. :D

My sister-in-law .. the one called Jazz .. who read here und now inspired to join in .. (cos she ist a teacher und wants to edit all my posts und give me an unclassified grade :yikes: tell me again on phone of her driving test . .

which she was surprised to pass on first attempt for following reasons:

1. She was :censored: nervous as she was the youngest of 8 who had set standards before her. I do know that feeling as I also the youngest of 4 in my own family und just a few weeks older than my cousin Jessika (who teaches und posts to the TES und teaching for TEACHERS ONLY fora ..und Road Safety und COASTy also discussed there too :P via Jess). I mention this to state we try to educate .. help all the kids out there. Jazz und Ju-Ju also active on those same sites.

2. She tell me she start off OK. But then froze for a split second when a truck pull in front of her without indicating. She hit the brake .. pull up with tarmac .. but slight view of tyres. She felt . "worried" as she think "blown it in first five minutes" :banghead:

3. She then compose to think how "to impress for rest of test"

4. He say "take next turning on left". She look in mirror,.. signal. position indicate .. turn.. intto some bloke's driveway" as this was the "next turniing on left". She tell me she had the sinking feeling .. but managed to squeak out .. "OOPS . I think I must do a three point turn to get back to main road as this driveway belong to big house here " She did. She noted the examiner was trying hard not to laugh. She tell me she held her breath tight. She was only SEVENTEEN here. she kept calm .. but say she felt "rather damp" by this point. :rotfl: ( Do LOVE Ted's family .. especially Jazz und Ju-Ju who put me in my place very politely und firmly :yikes: They have both been just great in my hours of need too. :bighand: :bighand: I post this as they do lurk as they fine me for my dafter und long winded posts .. and donate to "campaign good causes general")

5. She do the 3 point turn. return to main road .. continue. She PASSED! :bounce1:   I think more because she prove she could keep calm in a testing situation .. but also prove capable in charge of vehicle too.

This lady . an IAM driver. claim she ist no "expert behind the wheel" She does not have the same exuberance for track days as we do .. und her eyes glaze when we all wax lyrical about cars . discuss oil. where to find parts . how to tune up engine und performances on track family fun days.

But this lady epitomise the decent normal driver out there who care about what they do when driving all the same.

Her sister Ju-Ju say she messed up the three point turn. She end up in same direction .. but allegedly shrug und say the impatient driver fazed her.. und calmly did the routine again with perfection. She also pass her test first time und I suppose these instances show how an examiner will assess "attitude" as in displaying "calmness in a crisis!" perhaps :scratchchin:

I know Ted has this same characteristic in his genes .. which he appear to have passed on to our kittens so far. I am the more impatient . und I have learned how to control this fail in my character from Ted - but over the years here. Or THINK I have

But I must now embarrass myself. On a pre test practice (after I serve out the paternal disciplinary over the ski run) . Papa said :stop: to practise emergency stop. I did . .. but stopped before he clapped hands to tell me to do it. I think I was pre-empting . indisciplined .. to the "sudden/nowhere concept" Papa was scathing on the three occasions I did this with him pre-test.

Particularly as it should have only taken a light touch on the brake to stop the car - unless she has a habit of playing chicken with walls of course.

As for dumb, I once went for the clutch on an automatic transit minibus, what's worse I had already been driving it for a good twenty minutes or so.

i have done the opposite a few times. driven an auto truck then forgot my car is manual.
i have stalled a new scania a few times but in my defence, it is an auto but it has a clutch too which MUST be used when coming to rest and pulling away. the trouble is the truck is seriously quiet so i hadnt noticed the stall. i was trying to pull onto a road and wondered why i wasnt moving
