can anyone please explain why when one side of the carriageway is closed for roadworks, the contraflow is reduced to 40MPH? there are cones separating the lanes but other than that, is it not effectively a SC road but, in many cases, wider, better surfaced, without bends and without the danger of slower traffic and side roads so therefore safer?
i can understand protecting road workers on closed lanes but when we are talking about a central reservation between them and the traffic, especially with the concrete dividers in place as is often the case nowadays, i dont see the logic behind a 40MPH limit on what is a effectively a safer than normal SC section of road
