The problem with Freeview HD is the low bit rate on the transmission which really makes their "HD" pointless a lot of the time. They also transmit a lot of SD material on the HD channels (doh!!). However, unless you have a very big TV or a projector this may be acceptable to you.

Freesat generally transmit with a higher bit rate (less compression) and the image quality is better. Freesat is also less prone to local RF interference than Freeview.

Neither is anywhere near as good as BluRay for picture quality.

The tv I bought last week has both receivers, at the moment I am just using freeview hd. There is a difference from SD though the best SD content is nearly as good. I would not bother getting a separate freeview hd box on the strength of what it offers.

I think freesat hd has one less channel?

What are the costs of these systems ?
I know that I have kept it cheap and got a freeview box - the cheapest was about £20 (ebay).

Is it also not worth waiting for HD to settle down and become standardised ?
