Driving up the M20 west bound on Tuesday (29 March) I went through an 11 mile stretch of road works, where the speed limit is set at 40mph. I counted 8 speed cameras on that 11 mile stretch. Yes EIGHT.

Can anybody tell me whether this is legal? Can anybody tell me what the rationale for this would be?

I have written to the Kent Constabulary under the Freedom of Information Act to ask these questions, and am awaiting a repsonse, which I will post here. But I really would like to hear an informed answer in the meantime.

Incidentally, I have also asked them to disclose how many non UK registered vehicles have been caught on these cameras, and how many of those have been successfully prosecuted.

Bah, I can name roads with nearly that many in only a mile or two!

There's at least six between here and here !

The odd thing is it's a perfectly reasonable 40mph zone, poorly signed and often mistaken for a 30. I suspect these cameras are rarely loaded.
