Sorry if this is in the wrong place and that there is a 'hello I'm new' section, but I can't find it!

I work for the ambulance service so I:

1/ see the results of RTCs caused by excessive speed.
2/ see some shockly poor driving.
3/ feel that most drivers don't know what to do if/when they have an ambulance behind them on blues.

Also, I personally never knowly speed.

Anyway, hello! :drink:

Good to have you along. I am sure that you have some tales to tell !
(Posting in here is just fine :) )

We have had discussions on here about how to encourage others to see what we can (being highly observant) i.e. when a 999 vehicle is trying to get through & ow best to 'help' or ... how some 999 vehicles, now stop the sirens on red lights, as no one dare move through a red when there are camera enforcements in place and so on !
:)

True, and no amount of clamping down on people driving over the posted speed limit will do anything about either of those.

Maybe the govt should do some public information films to show on TV.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

:welcome: Joe 999.

1) - Is problem that drivers don't know what to do -or simply that on hearing twos ,a lot of drivers don't start to look for the lights and plan --number of times I have to either pull over and wave followers down or flash those in front to wake them up .To me it's hear /see - hear tones- look for lights .It's not rocket science - just give Ambulance/fire engine /police car a space in front , let him know you're giving him room ( emergency vehicles don't have a crystal ball ) --number of times I've seen one coming toward me ,made space ,flashed him and got a wave of thanks from driver /mate - it just makes your day ( or at least mine ) .

2) - Speed - read Peter E's sig . :D :D

Drivers are like donkeys -they respond best to a carrot, not a stick .Road safety experts are like Asses - best kept covered up ,or sat on

I rarely expect any wave of thanks although occasionally they do happen. When driving with an urgent demand the concentration needs to be totally on the job and any hand off the wheel (unless it is the retain hand on wheel but straighten fingers in a clear thank you of course), would normally be considered not the 'best practice'.

Think the last wave I got was from a two man crew -was his mate , possibly because I'd pulled over and had made cars behind give him room .
